I’ll go ahead and confess that I’ve had a few tickets over the last decade. One was just last November, when I pushed through an arrow I was sure was yellow. The officer disagreed. What are you going to do?

The second ticket was back in 1997, for wasting a finite fuel source. Hector Acuña and I were in a rush to get back from Rocky Point on a Sunday night to catch the X-Files. Would have made it, too, if it weren’t for that cop.

And then there was the night I spent in Pima County Jail over some leash law violations–but that was back in the college days, so you’d have to do some real sleuthing to dig that one up. We’ll tell you about it someday.

Why do I bring this up? Because Cheri Holgerson, a staffer with the Foster Care Review Board, has started investigating State Rep. Jonathan Paton after he said Child Protective Services needed more openness in the wake of various screw-ups and scandals. Greg Patterson over at Espresso Pundit broke the news earlier this week about how Holgerson recently sent Paton an e-mail inquiring about four traffic tickets he had received over the last 11 years.

When Arizona Daily Star reporter Josh Brodesky called Holgerson to inquire about this pathetic effort at intimidation, she told him: “I saw his, and I’ve also looked up yours.”

Oohhh! She’s a regular Veronica Mars!

Here’s our suggestion: Why don’t we all confess to our various traffic infractions here so Cheri has nothing to hold over us? If you need to jog your memory, you can search here.

Getting hassled by The Man Mild-mannered reporter

  1. All I’d have to say is that apparently Rep. Paton is right.

If this is how people at CPS are operating, then for sure, they do need some more openness.

They used to call it ‘blackmail,’ but when its this bland I’d call it ‘beigemail.’

  2. sorry, dumb on her part to do it but Paton’s response was even more dumb – calling her boss and saying it made him “queasy.”

Now, I’m expecting him to call my boss. Just who is trying to intimidate who?

He’s a grown man and a public servat – he should get over it and go after open records at CPS and stop crying about emails he gets.

  3. Serves you right for wanting to watch the lame, stupid X-Files so badly you’d put your life and others’ at risk by speeding.

Man, even the re-runs of that show suck.
