2008 political prop and current candidate for U.S. Congress (no, really) Joe the Plumber has lived up to snowbird stereotypes by coming in from the Midwest and yelling about things.

Mr. Plumber (real name: Sam Wurzelbacher) gained notoriety in 2008 for challenging then-candidate Barack Obama’s views, and subsequently flipped that fame into a primary victory in the race for Ohio’s 9th district Congressional seat. He was in Prescott over the weekend to bring a bit of star (?) power to state Sen. Lori Klein’s campaign to move to District 1’s state house seat, where he spoke his mind about immigration and border security policies:

For those not watching the video, Joe said: “For years I’ve said, ‘Put a damn fence on that border going to Mexico and start shooting …’ that’s how I feel. I’m not going to hide it just because I’m running for office. I want the borders protected, and I’m very adamant about that.”

But he didn’t stop there, reiterating his message at a rally the following day:

Of course, he took care to follow that up “It’s not because I’m bloodthirsty. It’s not because I want to kill illegal immigrants, it’s because I want my border secure. It’s all it comes down to.”

I get it — make an extreme statement about border security and guns, get popular with the right crowd, get elected. Makes sense.

But considering what happened at a Safeway last January, a theater in Aurora last month, a Sikh temple in Wisconsin just over a week ago, and in College Station, Texas, just two days ago, it might be time to cool it on the gun rhetoric for a while, right?

Election years are great, right?

  1. Joe the Plumber, is probably the most ignorant human being upon the face of the earth. His words are a combustible material in nature, and could not possibly serve any other purpose, other then too add fuel to the blazing inferno of hate and division in our country.

  2. Oh…boy! Here’s another embarrassment to the state of Arizona….This man wants to start shooting Mexicans.
I bet if you look at his background, he’s telling nothing but lies about helping and starting a veterans group to take them hunting in Alaska. Here a man if you remember, that didn’t have a pot to piss in 3yrs ago….now he’ doing all this…..the way he’s talking he’s stepping right into T.J.Ready’s shoes.

  3. Okay Joe, go ahead and build the fence. Here’s the catch, though: Fund it yourself and we’ll see if you can even erect five feet of it. Oh, and why don’t you also stand at the border and inform the Mexicans you’re there to shoot them if they attempt to cross. I bet serious cash you don’t last five minutes. Good luck on proving me wrong Joe.

  4. Joe the plumber will get the support of Republican voters because they are a collection of mindless morons who don’t have the intelligence to make a valid decision. I work with them and socialize with them and they are wooden-headed no-nothings who rely on their ideology to make all their decisions. They take the cowards way out so they can vote without having to use more than one brain cell to make a choice. When the workers of this country have been relegated to serfdom and the elderly are waiting in lines at soup kitchens run by the church and the sick have to rely on their own knowledge to get well maybe the wooden-headed 99% who vote for the Republican party will realize what they have wrought on this country.
