The response to us reporting that beloved local pizza joint Zachary’s is closing has been enormous. Employees say the place has been flooded with customers since we broke the news and the Arizona Daily Star published their own story yesterday, so brace yourselves for some serious business Zachary’s workers.
Of all the comments and e-mails the story inspired, this one posted recently by Phoenix resident Tracy Gallagher Benjamin takes the cake:
We named our first born after Zachary’s Pizza. He is now 13 years old. We love the pizza : Double Whammy with Garlic and Pepperoni and love the beer selection! We haven’t been in years! We live in Phoenix now but will try to make it back before they close. So sad. Z’s PIzza: you’ll be missed!!
Enough said. Oh, and if you are planning on going down there before Zack’s closes at the end of the month, they’re only taking cash.

I don’t think Double Whammy is a good name for a kid.
It’s not clear from Tracy Gallagher Benjamin’s comment at ADS whether the child was named after Zachary’s Pizza or after Zachary’s Pizza…
Right? Rereading it I wonder if she meant they named the kid after eating Zachary’s pizza, or if they named the child Zachary. I will check into this breaking development.
Most the time going out to eat is….just a waste of money! Most restaurants are not all that great, and the consistency of how good the food is…is not reliable. Supermarket food is cheaper…our cooking skills more reliable.
You would think that with all the outpouring of support that the Zachary’s ownership clan would just consider finding a nicer cleaner location where they can negotiate a lease they can work with and then reopen at. Why doesn’t one of the people who constantly trumpet supporting local businesses help them out?
