Outside magazine, a publication for people who either live outside or enjoy being outside, is hosting an online poll to determine the Best Outside Town in America, and while the weight that should be given to an poll conducted on Facebook can be argued, I think we can all agree we don’t want Portland to win (either Oregon or Maine, both of which are among the ten finalists). Somehow, Tucson is currently in the lead, and while the title might be totally meaningless, it would be good to have something positive to put on the mantle, right? Plus, someone who votes wins a vacation to one of the other nine (losing) cities. Go vote. It only takes a minute or so (assuming you’re a Facebook user).

Besides which, whether the pollis legitimate or not, this is an award of which Tucson is legitimately worthy. Year-round.
“For once?”
Sonoran Desert Mountain Bikers just won $50,000 from Ford a few weeks ago in a contest just like this one, and I’m pretty sure it was just the local section of Arizona Trail Maintenance that won $50,000 less than two years ago.
Tucson may not always be number one but is often recognized for many things. Just this year alone:
#1 City for Renters (Forbes)
BASIS Tucson #4 Top Ranking High School (Washington post)
4th Best City for Public Transportation and Job Access (Brookings institution)
Cleanest U.S. City for 24 Hour Particle Pollution (American lung association)
Third Cleanest U.S. City for Year-round Particle Pollution (American lung association)
Top 7 Housing Markets: Best Recovery Bets (CNN)
One of the World’s Most Underrated Cities (Yahoo)
Top 7 Desert City Destination (Reuters)
Oh, pulleezze, gimme a break, portland, oregon?? Rains 151 days a year including winter with high winds. R U crazy? Boulder? A rich man’s Tucson with left wing politics worse than us. You gotta have a lot of dough to live there, trust me, been there, and COLD? True biking in six inches of snow at 20 degrees, pal. The rest of them, small town minds and weather. It’s all Tucson, Tucson, and you know it.
