Action star Steven Seagal, who is promoting his latest reality show Steven Seagal: Lawman Maricopa County (The Lost Episodes), suggested to TV station KNXV that he might run for governor this year. While the 2014 GOP gubernatorial primary is already shaping up as a somewhat bizarre farce thanks to the million-to-one-shot candidacies of Andrew Thomas (the former Maricopa County attorney who was disbarred thanks to his lunatic prosecution of his political enemies) and state Sen. Al Melvin, the addition of Seagal would make it absolutely spectacular. Sadly, even Seagal finds the role of gubernatorial candidate unlikely, telling KNXV that he “would have a lot more, other responsibilities that may be more important to address.”

  1. In a state that’s elected Evan Meacham, Fife Symington and Jan Brewer, it’s hard to see the downside to this.

  2. Why not? People elected R. Reagan, Jesse Ventura and Arnold S. as governors, and Seagal is at least as famous as they were. And it is not like we are not used to being the punchline on late night TV. Our own reality show in the Gov’s office. How unreal is that?

  3. I doubt that he will sell out the state to the gov’t unions which seems to be the rage in nearby CA and NV as well as MI and Il. He certainly will not be beholden to the union special interests like the Democrat candidates will be. May be worth listening to what he has to say and not just use the usual lazy snarky comments to marginalize him.

  4. what’s the matter people???,,,,are you afraid of a politition that might actually do his job???

  5. He seems to have the right attitude on immigration. Which will remain as Arizona’s most important issue until the country can get rid of Barack Obama and Eric Holder.

  6. He would make a nice running joke for this year, although I seriously doubt the blue-hairs in Phoenix would vote for him in sufficient numbers for him to win.

  7. Curiouser and curiouser. Can Arizona politics get any more bizarre? Unfortunately the answer is yes.

  8. I can hardly wait. If he runs it will provide endless entertainment to what might otherwise be a dull election season.

  9. Catskinner, the Obama administration has been more aggressive about deportation of illegals than the GWB administration, by a long shot. You might want to look at facts rather than making wild assumptions based on your party affiliation. Speaking of that, did you know that the GOP is in favor of higher levels of immigration, and have supported amnesty schemes many times in the past, because they want to supply cheaper labor to big business? How do you suppose that affects the job market for you? Time to take off the blinders.
