Don’t look for Southern Arizona Congressman Raul Grijalva to vote in favor of the CROmnibus deal that is supposed to stop the government from running out of money in a couple of days.
Grijalva and his Congressional Progressive Caucus Co-Chairs Keith Ellison (D-MN) denounced the bill today:
We support a government funding bill that invests in creating jobs and American families. Unfortunately, the CROmnibus fails to do that.
Republicans, who learned nothing from the financial crisis of 2008, included a provision that allows Wall Street to engage in some of the same risky practices that crashed the world economy. The short-term funding of the Department of Homeland Security sets up another government shutdown battle in February and is motivated by Republicans who refuse to fix our broken immigration system. Continuing cuts to education and environmental protections while spending billions on endless wars is the wrong priority for American families. Sneaking in last minute provisions, like turning our democracy into an auction house by raising campaign contributions, is the wrong way to govern.
Republicans are once again using a potential crisis with the federal budget to hurt working families. The Progressive Caucus stands with the American people and opposes the bill.
The New York Times rounds up some of the provisions under discussion here. Wonkette unpacks the campaign-finance elements here. The Planetary Society notes that NASA appears to be a winner in the budgetary battle.

Tell us about jobs Grijalva…because you can’t show us squat.
Your protesters do not have jobs or they would have been at work. This just might be your fault.
Progressive Caucus? I thought you were in the Black Congressional Caucus, or the Hispanic American Caucus.
WTH happened to representing all Americans Raul? Not just your grab and run border crossers.
Maybe they are getting paid to protest so that would be their job.
Raul doesn’t want all that $ going to Wall Street but he doesn’t mind giving it to the Muslim Brotherhood or the Taliban like what he and a few other liberal Demos did back a few yrs. ago. Millions of $ to the Taliban for med. supplies to heal their wounded jihadists so that they could get back out on the battlefield to kill our soldiers. Traitorous POS!
Grijalva on CROmnibus: GOP Is “Using a Potential Crisis With the Federal Government To Hurt Working Families”?????? The only thing he is interested in is the immigrants of Mexico not anything else. Trying to squeeze in working families? Give me a break
The bill also increased the amount of money that individuals can give to political parties – anybody else think there is too much money from special interests as it is?
The bill also bought more F-35’s that the Pentagon did not request.
The bill also cut WIC funding.
