Ann-Eve Pedersen and I take a look at the three people who are advising Gov-elect Doug Ducey on education: Lisa Graham Keegan, Matthew Ladner and Erik Twist. All three have strong ties to the conservative education privatization movement. Not a school district employee or advocate among them.
Seeing as how Ducey’s knowledge of education is thin and about 80 percent of Arizona’s school children attend a district school, wouldn’t it make sense to have one person on his Ed Transition team who knows something about school districts from the inside?
This article appears in Dec 11-17, 2014.

Been there done that schools are closing. New people new ideas new results.
I agree, NO more District Employees, who have proven time and time again they are all Incompetent, with very very few exceptions. Lets all Move On.. thanks Doug.
rat t, new people? Keegan and Ladner have been “reforming” AZ education for 20 years. Hardly new people or new ideas. Same old privatization stuff we’ve heard for years.
Same question for Rat T as I had for Guissepe on another string–how many kids do you have in school?
This is very informative, as I think we can expect it to be in the future on this topic. When it comes to state-level stuff, it doesn’t get much better than Ann-Eve Peterson, despite her gros attempt at total manipulation of local TUSD elections by putting up her friend who is similarly great at the state level but really NOT knowledgeable at the local level. But she certainly kept any other candidate from winning so I guess that was the point. Nonetheless, in the midst of the horrendous election season, Ann-Eve’s little piece about Doug Ducey’s role in the 204 struggle was brilliant and I personally look forward to more good and informative stuff on these characters.
Two. And I pay taxes for schools they will not attend. Money can not fix the mess at TUSD.
Well the liberals have had it all their way for the past dozen yrs. or so and look at the mess our educ. system is in. Let’s give the business man a chance to prove himself.
No, Ricky, the only ones who have had their way in Arizona are conservatives, who won’t be happy until there is no more public education and all the tax money funneled into private, preferably legislative, hands. They’re already well on their way and Ducey will make sure that there is nothing to slow them down.
I’ll be happy when there is no more TUSD administration, no more Grijalvas polluting and corrupting not just the schools and the teachers, but probably the children too! So yeah.. if privatization cleans that up, So Be It.
AZ gave TUSD millions more, two days ago. They expanded administrative staff again.
TUCSON, AZ (KOLD) – Tucson Unified School District has ended its financial support of an adult-education program connected with “Promotoras del Barrio,” due to improper use of funding, according to TUSD officials.
Tell us again how the money is for the children.
It’s a great story.
Well, Davey, your resume might have been considered if your cover letter didn’t start out; “Dear Dumb Doug” ;-}
Don’t lead him on. False hopes can be devastating.
Just take a look at Hillary.
Hillary’s gonna quit. It’s gonna be Joe Biden by a nose.
Now that there’s funny!
