Next time you’re wandering the 99 cent store for irregular Jelly Bellies and Larry the Cable Guy beer bread, make sure to keep an eye out for our fair governor, Janice K. Brewer — apparently, the commoners of this state aren’t the only folks whose annual salary could use a bit of sprucing up.
According to a survey from the Council of State Governments, Brewer’s pay is less than that of 37 state administrators and 44 governors across America.
From the Mojave Valley Daily News:
The top Arizona salaries in the report went to state officials who direct higher education and commerce departments, each of whom made $300,000, the survey said.
But governors across the country consistently make less than the bureaucrats who reported to them, according to the data, which came as no surprise to experts.
“We don’t pay our elected officials a lot. Period,” said Ruth Jones, a professor at the School of Politics and Global Studies at Arizona State University.
And the author of the survey said the salary is not why governors run for the office, either.
“You don’t want to be governor just to make a lot of money,” said Audrey Wall, the managing editor of the Council of State Governments. “That’s not what your goal is if you’re running for that office.”
Obviously, politics (in itself) isn’t the best way to make a lot of money for one’s self (unless one happens to be obscenely crooked), but hey, there’s all sorts of benefits to this job — if nothing else, the Gov makes more money than the guy we elected to defend our state in court even though our public education system cratered under his watch and he hired someone wholly unqualified to job after job under him.
But hey, any opportunity to take a job where you get beloved propaganda digitally altered in your favor (then altered OUT of your favor!) is one you’ve got to take, regardless of the pay, right?

She’s still vastly overpaid.
As I keep saying, it’s only appropriate for a state which pays its school teachers and professors poorly also. And then there is our minimum wage and poverty conditions. By the way, why didn’t you post her actual salary and benefits?
Pretty good pay for a low class finger-waver.
For someone that believes we can consume endlessly, use up our resources and leave a improvised planet poor in resources because of fat livin now; for her support of charter schools, that decimate public schools and do worse academically, without sports, music, theatre and other activities, shes lucky she is getting the salary, she is ignorant and not helping az. by the way this weekend colorado river water and az. cap water is going to be reduced, the tea party are too busy getting fat and greedy to notice, what a sin
The Teaparty has singlehandedly destroyed the GOP. Look
for a landslide victory next election by the Democrats.
Most politicians have other sources of income, sorry they are public servants I don’t fell sorry for them if they feel underpaid.
Low pay for the governor of the most notorious “Right to Work (for LESS)” state?
Quelle Surprise!
My other thought is that maybe her salary is set at her Peter Plateau or IQ level?
My other thought is “poetic justice” in the “Meth Lab for ‘democracy'”…
