Another childhood memory gone. Magdalene Gerrish died April 5 at the age of 87.

I’ve been looking for video clips of her legendary commercials for Szechuan Omei Restaurant on “Eassa Spee’way.” But I can’t find any. According to an obituary, she opened the restaurant in 1977 and ran the place until she sold it in 1999.

Here’s more:

She took her brassiness to serve as a caregiver at the Waverly House until her little feet could carry her no more. Born in China, she came to America as a teen studying English and nursing and landed in Tucson in 1958 where she served patients at St. Mary’s Hospital for 21 years. She is survived by her children, Andy (Tweety) Gerrish of Tucson, Teresa (Michael) Morris of Moraga, CA, Mark Gerrish from Casa Grande and Grandchildren: Alex, Megan, Michael , Jack, Katie, Elizabeth, Emily, Mark, Kelsea and great —granddaughter Lex. 1. I would like to see her video as well! I hope someone posts it we are trying to remember her catch phrase!?

  2. I would love to see the commercials, was trying to find them on line. “everything on menu $5 dolla except the seafood and the duck”

  3. “at thissa ressaraunt we have over 65 dishes, all price unda $5, excepada seafood and the duck.”

  4. I have an old vhs tape I use to record just about everything when I was younger (15 yo) & discovering audio/video technology etc. There is a commercial of The Szechuan Omei restaurant with Magdalene in a maroon gown but need to convert to mp4 any ideas? I’ve lost interest in latest technology since HS
