Tucson City Councilman Rodney Glassman, who won the Ward 2 seat just two years ago, has announced the formation of an exploratory campaign against U.S. Sen. John McCain. Now that’s looking for a big promotion!

Glassman has a steep hill to climb, according to a recent poll that showed McCain crushing him 55 percent to 25 percent.

Glassman’s Web site is here.

The text of Glassman’s letter:

This week we formed the “Rodney Glassman U.S. Senate Exploratory Committee”. Through this committee, we intend to raise funds in order to “test the waters” for the 2010 U.S. Senate race. We urge you to visit our website at www.rodneyglassman.com and make a contribution of $20 if you believe that Arizona needs a fresh, new voice advocating for our state in Washington, D.C.!

We are proud to have Flagstaff Mayor Sara Presler, Phoenix City Councilman Michael Nowakowski, and Pima County Recorder F. Ann Rodriguez as the co-chairs for our committee. As a City Councilman with a law degree and a PhD in Arid Land Resource Sciences, I have a strong record of

getting things done for our community!

Championing the nation’s first ordinances for rainwater harvesting on new commercial development and gray-water plumbing on new residential development

Passing win-win policies to open neighborhood school-yards and turning them into neighborhood parks
Leading our region’s business community by developing forums to engage small-business voices in the government process

Working in business and government before joining the United States Air Force JAG Reserve to, once again, expand my ability to serve

Receiving the Eagle Scout rank at age 13, and at age 23 creating a non-profit organization to raise and distribute over $100,000 annually to children’s charities

We believe Arizonans deserve a Senator committed to supporting Arizona schools at all levels, creating quality jobs, and protecting our beautiful environment. Towards that end, our Exploratory Committee has been created with a commitment to providing everyone with an equal seat at the table and will accept no more than $20 from contributors. While we understand that Senate races are expensive, we believe that everyone should be able to participate equally in helping support our exploration.

IT’S UP TO YOU. Please forward this e-mail and ask your friends to contribute, to join our cause, fundraise, become a supporter on Facebook, or follow me on Twitter. Urge them to visit our website at www.rodneyglassman.com and contribute $20 to our exploratory committee!

Our state is desperately in need of creativity and new ideas. Please consider making a contribution of $20 today to support our exploration and help us make Arizona history. We won’t let you down. We can and we will build a movement – of truth, creativity, and inclusion for all Arizonans.

  1. Well, Jim Nintzel, an Old Pueblo Repub going after McCain’s seat? At best he can obtain a toehold; hardly a Rodney. So what is he up to?

As an aside, McCain has “die in office” written all over him…the John Stennis of the West, perhaps.

  2. He’s a clown. This is so funny. Glassman should be part of SNL. He can always run on (or from) his achivements of the city council as a foundation for his campaign. Yeah, right!

  3. Gosh and Golly!

Don’t be so hard on Our Boy Rodney. He’s merely reaching for the American Dream and following Obama’s lead.

In America, ANYONE cam be ANYTHING! This is why I’m going to announce my candidacy for the Office of the President of the United States in January.

“Why..?” Because this is America, porque se puede and because I am…

  4. I would be interested in hearing arguments why Glassman would be the best Democrat to compete against McCain.

  5. Is anoyone actually surprised that Rodney Glassman is, at heart, just another power seeking politicians. Gee, like we really need some more of those! I predicted this to friends when this fool blew into Tucson some time back, made enough noise to get his face noticed, and then got himself elected.

Glassman reminds me of those TV news anchors who use Tucson as a stepping-stone to the “major markets” – which would be okay but while they are here they try to pass themselves off as as soooo in love with our city and desert. I guess I just hate people with so obvious “fronts” who are essentially depending on the ordinary person not being wise enough to see through to the real motivation.

That’s Glassman to me – a big smile in a cheap suit who doesn’t really give a rip about my hometown.

  6. Rodney is a joke that should never have happened. His running is like “BOZO for President”, it won’t happen. Maybe he is looking into the Senate race because he knows he hasn’t done anything for Tucson. Since being elected he has spent more time away from Tucson than doing his elected job. Let’s see how far he gets doing that as a Federal elected offical.
