Tomorrow is the deadline for congressional candidates to report their second-quarter fundraising. Candidates have been tight-lipped about their totals, which make us believe it wasn’t all that great for most of them.

But Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords appears to have had a pretty good three months. The Democratic incumbent is reporting that she raised nearly $600,000 and has more than $2.2 million cash on hand. Here’s the release from Team Giffords:

Giffords Today Giffords for Congress will report nearly $600,000 raised in the second quarter of 2010 and more than $2.2 million cash on hand, the results of an impressive grassroots fundraising effort that includes more than 3,200 Arizonans so far this cycle.

The report, which will be filed today with the FEC, is the latest demonstration of Southern Arizona’s strong and growing support for Gabrielle’s work. In May, Gabrielle’s grassroots signature collection effort set a record for the most petition signatures collected by a congressional campaign in Arizona history.

“Southern Arizonans overwhelmingly support Gabrielle’s hard work to secure the border, fight for our servicemembers and veterans and create solar energy jobs,” said Michael McNulty, Giffords for Congress campaign chairman.

“Political pundits can keep chattering about ‘national mood,’ but the reality here in District 8 is that Southern Arizonans are standing up and showing with the doors they knock, the calls they dial and the generous financial contributions they make that Gabrielle’s strong, independent voice is the one they want fighting for Southern Arizona in Congress.”

  1. Grassroots? more like Patomac roots…

Somebody raided the District of Columbia treasure chest!

It doesn’t matter how much you raise from lobbyist, PAC and wealthy out of state donors; your time is done Giffords.

  2. So is this like “bused in” money or manipulation kind of like the out of state investors who came in and tore up Arizona’s economy during the housing bubble? Oh, and didn’t that also happen on her watch?

  3. How does east coast money demonstrate wide Southern Arizona support? Gabby is spinning her donations.

Gabby will have to explain her consistent socialist votes with nancy Pelosi on the $862 billion stimulus bill, the $33 billion S-CHIP expansion of government, the Lilly Ledbetter gift to the trial lawyers, the s-called “cap and trade” bill, the Stupak compromise on abortion, Obamacare (which she voted for without reading it), the $200 Medicare Physician Payment Reform bill, Permanent Estate Tax Act increasing the inheritance tax to 45% on estates larger than $3.5 million. There isn’t a tax Gabby doesn’t like.

Gabby will have to explain her loyalty to Nancy Pelosi instead of to her constituents in Arizona.

Now she’s spinning border security even though she does not support Arizona’s immigration law.

At long last, is there no sense of shame in this woman.
