Former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords’ statement on last night’s mass shooting in Las Vegas:

I know this feeling of heartbreak and horror too well. The massacre in Las Vegas is a grave tragedy for our nation. This must stop – we must stop this.

I am praying for the victims of this shooting, their families and friends. And I am so grateful for the heroism and professionalism of the first responders who acted so courageously to bring this horror to an end. I send the injured all my strength: you have a long road ahead. Be strong. You can do it. My heart is with the city of Las Vegas and all who were touched by this tragedy.

But I am praying for my former colleagues, our elected leaders, too. I am praying they find the courage it will take to make progress on the challenging issue of gun violence. I know they got into politics for the same reason I did—to make a difference, to get things done. Now is the time to take positive action to keep America safer. Do not wait. The nation is counting on you.

  1. Why not wait until we have some details about the shooter, the weapons, some more facts, and the possibility that these weapons already were illegal?

Then start by outlawing hate. I see plenty of it right here in the comments section.

  2. Gabby Gifford’s American For Responsible Solutions should consider runing ads against House & Senate NRA owned lickspittles. Ads showing them saying “thoughts & prayers” along with a graphic illustrating how much cash they’ve taken from the NRA over their careers.

  3. Nothing will change.

20 dead first graders in sandy hook was not enough, last years benchmark of deadliest mass shooting up that point of 49 people was not enough, this event wont change anything either.

  4. President John Adams has aptly characterized what is happening in this Country:

“Democracy while it lasts is more bloody than either aristocracy or monarchy. Remember, democracy never lasts long. It soon wastes, exhausts, and murders itself. There is never a democracy that did not commit suicide.”

  5. Well, Gabby, run again… You were way better than McSally and I think Flake gets more vulnerable as he runs to the Right… like McCain always does. We need to make some changes here…

  6. We’ve always had lax gun laws. Indeed, our gun laws now are stricter than they’ve been during most of modern American history. But we haven’t always had mass casualty attacks at this frequency. So guns can’t be causing this. What’s causing this is general cultural decay, a loss of faith, morality, and a sense of community. No one wants to talk about any of that, however, so we look for easier solutions.

  7. Let’s cut the bullshit, shall we? I don’t have any delusions about changing your mind. I think you’re an idiot. I don’t care what you think about me. Do you understand? My plan is to find a way to live in a world with morons like you who can’t grasp that the NRA doesn’t care about anything except getting their pockets lined from gun manufacturers. Outdoorsmen? Ha. Freedom fighters? Pathetic. But boy, if it keeps you from reaching for your piece, I sure hope you get lots of likes on your comments, tiger. They seem to matter more to you than human life.

  8. Name calling displays a unique level of ignorance. And this is his plan to live in a world with people he disagrees with. Hatred is at the root of all of this. Like I said above there is plenty of hatred right here in the comments. And very few real solutions.

  9. And you’re brimming with smarts? You still haven’t answered my question. You’re too busy making my case for me by calling me an idiot.

  10. I would dislike it to if I was one of the 8 idiots who could only hit dislike but offer no argument to what I said. I’m still waiting for Peabrain to tell me one law that would have stopped the Las Vegas shootings. For what it’s worth, on the Sunday news shows Diane Feinstein admitted that no such laws exists. Once again I hand Peabrain his lunch !!!

  11. Your Answer CW13 via Old Spanish Advise:
No es posible tener una discusin inteligente con un tonto encabezado vaco!

  12. Was I talking to you, pencil-neck geek. Perhaps you can tell me one law that would have stopped the shootings.
    Kisso my asso, por vavor.

  13. Hey Ed. Do you know any laws that would have stopped the Vegas shootings? Didn’t think so. Actually I’m of Italian decent like Columbus. Try this. Ba fongoul !!
Francis Baby. Nice of you to defend Peabrain. What is he, your son ?

  14. I owe you an apology, CW13. I misspoke earlier when I said I thought you were an idiot. I meant to say I know you’re an idiot.

  15. Gonna answer my question or just keep calling me names? Maybe your ” friend” Francis will help you out.

  16. Obviously a typo. That still doesn’t answer my question. That’s O.K. Peabrain, his “friend” Miss Francis and dozens and dozens of other anonymous dislikers couldn’t either. How sad.
