In response to the possible Westboro Baptist Church protest, the Arizona Senate has unanimously passed SB 1101, which bans protests within three hundred feet of buildings where memorials are being held. The bill is on its way to Governor Brewer to sign, which she has previously indicated she will do.

Yes! We CAN work together!!
Wow. Is this the first unanimous vote from both houses combined ever for the state? 😉
Good non-god, this might be the only time in her entire benighted career that Brewer does something I support.
How sick is it that we have to pass a law to prevent things like this from happening? What ever happened to common decency and feelings toward your fellow man?
Great question ‘poolman’. Answer…you live in the new post flower power America of the 1970s where every one goes to get a college education where they listen to looney left Arts and Humanities professors and read a ton of books irrelevant to real life. All this convinces them that life may be just a dress rehearsal and that the next time through they’ll perhaps get it right. It’s then that they will all concern themselves with common decency. empathy and even sympathy…until then they’ll satisfy themselves with self- indulgence just as mum and dad , granny and gramps did in the flower years. What happened? The phoney self emancipation from social authority, as it had evolved over countless generations, has led the USA and Europe to create societies consisting greatly in individual selfishness and personal indulgence no matter the consequence. My thoughts over many many, years since witnessing the origins of the ‘phony’ !
I’m reading the Pima County GOP chair is against the Westboro restrictions based on a slippery slope argument free speech could be squelched.
EDIT:
I’m reading the Pima County GOP chair is against the newly created AZ Westboro restrictions based on a slippery slope argument that other forms of free speech could be limitlessly squelched.
Saw it somewhere on TalkingPointsMemo.com
This is sickaning that people would protest any funeral expecially that of 9 year old little girl. I for the for the first time in my life am asamed to be a chirstian and am mortified that they are still going to be there only a 1,000 feet a way i would love to sign up for the human wall to block these stupied and back woods people from ruining that familys greving process. Show some respect how about we show up to one of there funerals and protest them. I am just absolutly floored by this
Unfortunately, this law is probably unconstitutional. As vile as this Topeka group is, they are still protected against governmental restrictions on speech.
It’ll probably get overturned, but at least it’ll keep Freddie and his clan away from these funerals.
