The Weekly mentioned a few weeks ago that former state lawmaker Terri Proud would not be challenging state Rep. Ethan Orr in a Republican primary in Legislative District 9, which includes central Tucson and the Catalina foothills.
We noted at the time that Proud could move into Legislative District 11, a much more conservative district that would better suit her political bent. And it appears that’s just what Proud has done; she has announced via Facebook that she’s looking at running for the House of Representatives in LD11, which includes Oro Valley, Pinal County and a southern portion of Maricopa County.
Right now, the two LD11 House seat are held by Republicans Adam Kwasman and Steve Smith. Kwasman announced this week that he’s exploring a congressional run against U.S. Rep. Ann Kirkpatrick (and that exploration is just a fig leaf to avoid Arizona’s resign-to-run law), while Smith is planning to run for the LD11 Senate seat now held by Al Melvin, who plans to run for governor next year.
So far, two other Republicans have announced their interest in the open House seats: Bob Westerman, a former chairman of the Pima County Republican Party, and Vince Leach, a conservative activist who has the endorsement of Melvin and Smith.

Forget her website. Like her brain, it’s not up and running yet.
This is somewhat terrifying. The teabag/dunce cap/tinfoil hat crowd is inching ever closer to Tucson. Oro Valley’s always been a nice moist petri dish for them, so I hope they stay there.
God save us. Why can’t these nut jobs run for county offices and cut our outsized property taxes? We do not need more hopeless wing nuts at the state or federal level.
Terri can move from apartment to apartment to run where she likes.
MS Proud has real roots in the community, she is just not sure which District offers her the best job after she gets elected. I wonder if her dedication to running for office is something like Sarah Palin’s half term as Governor? Roll up let’s “make a deal”.
I’m sure Ms. Proud and Al Melvin would make a nice pair from the Tea Bag heaven of Arizona Legislative District 11. I wonder what their love child would look like?
By the way Al Tam, the district including Oro Valley and Saddlebrooke has been a safe district for the fermenting of extreme Right Wing political factions for a while. The in migration of many residents in the area from the Mid-West have certainly contributed to this political orientation.
I guess the Mid-Westerners leave their snow shovels behind in Iowa, etc., but bring their conservative political leanings along to sunny Arizona. Would that it were not so…
I wish the whole lot of them would just run away to another state!
I was about to make fun of you all for your vitriol hate speech in regards to miss proud. then I played her video………..gees never mind let the hate fly. 🙂
