When Republicans go on and on about the glory of the Reagan administration, I get somewhat confused, mostly because my memories of the era are largely focused on the game shows I used to watch then and not on political history. However, now that artist Jason Heuser has captured the historical moment when the late President rode a velociraptor while brandishing a machine gun, likely attacking communists or people in Grenada or something. I totally get it. Gentle jelly-bean loving grandpa by day, American bad-ass by night. It all makes so much more sense now.

Unfortunately that probably is all you understand about the man. The fact that he believed in the greatness of America, and more importantly, Americans, escapes you I’m sure.
FAIL!
Reagan gave America hope after the disaster that was the Jimmy Carter administration. I am sorry that you spent your time in “slacker land” during his presidency. I for one wish we had someone like him again in the Oval Office. Agree with him or not, he stuck to his principles and was a true leader. Polls did not determine his next move, he did what he felt was right. NO politician in this day and age has 1/100 of the courage of their convictions that President Reagan had! That EXACTLY why we are in the mess we are in, NO LEADERSHIP, NO PLAN, NO RESULTS!!!
Iran/contra, deregulation of banks and environmentally destructive corporations, More Reagan officials convicted, indicted or subject to investigation than any other administration, high unemployment, unconstitutional laws passed, tax breaks for the wealthiest americans, war on drugs (epic fail), corruption at every turn. The conservatives are the great myopic tragedy of the last 40 years. But you keep on dreaming like the children that you are….
What were his good points, conservatives?
Superman34: Well, to be fair, I was ages four to eleven during his time in office.
During the Reagan administration, the American economy went from a GDP growth of -0.3% in 1980 to 4.1% in 1988 (in constant 2005 dollars), which reduced the unemployment rate by 1.6%, from 7.1% in 1980 to 5.5% in 1988, but with peaks of around 10.8% in 1983. A net job increase of about 21 million also occurred through mid-1990. The inflation rate, 13.5% in 1980, fell to 4.1% in 1988. The current President has no plan, just increase in debt and gimmicks. Give me Reagan any day….
Superman34: You must be really fun at parties.
typical rebub cut and paste, stup. 3 words: trickle down economics, otherwise known as reaganomics, aka the pretty pink khaki invasion. your argument holds no water. with his 2 recessions, a massive spike in poverty level, the unholy ‘marriage’ of church and state, the curious implementation of crack cocaine into the inner cities, illegal foreign wars, etc etc, this spelled massive disaster for millions of americans (then and especially now). you cannot defend this, can you?
Paul Volcker’s Federal Reserve Bank stopped the stagflation of the late ’70s early ’80s. Paul Volcker was appointed by Jimmy Carter and reappointed by Ronald Reagan. So, yes, the President Ronald Reagan wasn’t totally stupid and continues to draw ignorant, easily-led, dreamy people, postmortem. And we got the Simpsons out of it. For a while.
Has to be one of the most ignorant views of history that has been posted here. I think his recall of the Match and Dating game has more accuracy and probably insight. While I was able to Vote the second worst president out of office jimmy Carter. There are several reason Regans presidency was a sweep. It was a vote against, and views like Gibsons helped change the motion of the country. Regan had several things happen during his term like allowing the treasury to sell notes to foreign investors. The deregulation of the Banking and the S&L crisis. The funding of the contra, Marines in Lebanon, arming the Afgan rebels, and defence spending that broke the the Soviet Union.
These are things that Jon Stewart and Colbert dont have punch lines for So Gibson has no resource material. All of the Regan era successes and failures were directly tied to congress. What Regan gave was hope! (sound familiar). While it is interesting to read such the daily minutia of the liberal dumb-o-crates. They have no knowledge of Reagan era politics, events, or legistlation, just a punch line of jelly beans and Grenada
Ask air traffic controllers about reagans “greatness.”
His wife, nancy, did give the best blow-job in hollywood.
This is hysterical this Dan Gibson has his iown view of events that have little to do with fact. With quips of you must be really fun at parties. I dont go to alot of parties because I pay a payroll and dont have time to rejoice at comedy. This guy want to be the head of the group like in the novel, Lord of the flies!
Red Star!!
You just like to make stuff up do ya!!!
Paul Volker was fired by Regan and brought in Alan Greenspan. HE lasted 5 presidential terms. I would challenge you to the facts and the performance of the Federal Reserve over those terms but it is obvious you are not capable of association Who sat in the federal reserve and when.
LOL what a pant load
“Ten Reasons Ronald Reagan was a Bad President”
http://www.bloggalicious.tv/archives/5080
It is clear that the Regan terms in office had the second highest increase in military spending during peacetime, only exceeded by Kennedys 3 year term, It has been reported accurately that Bush is the biggest spending increase in the last 30 years since LBJ.
What is missing in all of these posts is the view that a president cant write a budget spend a dime or introduce a spending bill.
The ignorant myopic posts of most here is the complete reason we have this turmoil we have. Not one post talked about Congress it is them in it’s entirely that spend all the money!!!!
Some of Greenspand quotes should be read. Such as “I cant thing of anything that can stimulate the economy faster than a strong stock market.” ( the market is rebounding)
“One of the best ways to strengthen a economy is a lower taxe rate but not with borrowed money”
These are congressional issues not presidential !
Robert, You are correct that congress has much to do with what is wrong with our country today. The President, however, should lead with encouraging, uplifting messages, that bring us together as a country. Our current President is one of the mose divisive in memory. His every move is to get himself reelected.
to Allan Bartlett: the unintelligent always go to the vulgar.
Ronny was a class “B” actor, he got out of acting do to memory loss and into politics where he lost hes total memory after his first four years.
His last four yrs. in office were run by the GOP and they got every thing they wanted,
which has put this country in the position it’s in today, the haves & have nots.
To bad there’s more nots than haves.
Ronald Reagan. Corporate tool, and China’s greatest hero.
Robert Ruckman,
Learn to spell, especially proper nouns such as that of your hero “Reagan” whom you seem to insist is “Regan.” And that of your demon: “Volcker” whom you seem to insist is “Volker.”
Maybe then we can discuss.
Doesn’t look promising, but heck…
Reagan did more damage to the office of the American President than Nixon. He pursued an illegal foreign policy out of the basement through George the First. Millions of people died as a result of his illegal actions. He should have been impeached along with Bush. He ran up record deficits with his reckless defense spending, bringing the US to its knees as well as the Soviet Union. But he did say “Tear down that wall!” He was smart enough not to start building one around this country. So, I’ll give him credit for that.
Democrats are really out in force today. Are you all retired, like me, or do you work for the government where nobody cares how you spend your time?
