Making Human Beings Inhuman
First they are “pollos”. Chickens. Then they are “illegals”, just so much contraband, or “aliens”, strange creatures from another place, to be feared. Even “immigrant” incites, outsiders, “foreigners” who take our jobs – in a land that was once theirs. In Federal Court they become “criminals” – detained, chained. Yet they endure. Never deterred from their search for family, a better life. They are migrants who want to move freely without fear.
