The Utah man behind the effort to recall Pima County Sheriff Clarence Dupnik is apparently withdrawing his petition after being accused of falsely using his brother’s identity and forging his brother’s signature on the application for recall.

Kevin Elliott, brother of Dan Elliott—aka, Dan Baltes, the man who filed the petition—said he plans to file charges with the Pima County Attorney’s Office after being notified by me that his name was listed as the treasurer for the recall organization paperwork filled with Pima County.

“My signature is on that piece of paper?” said Kevin Elliott. “ That bastard forged my name. That’s all fabricated bullshit right there.”

Kevin Elliott, a bail bondsman from Boise, Idaho, wants Pima County to know that he is not surprised about his brother’s apparent dishonesty.

“I hope the cops find him before I do,” said Kevin Elliott. “I’m not joking when I say that.”

Kevin Elliott said his brother was a “bleeding-heart liberal” working as a paralegal for a Denver chapter of the American Civil Liberities Union after being released from the Idaho Department of Corrections for a near-decade-long stint between the ’80s and ’90s, including convictions for grand theft, forgery and check fraud—and the victims were Baltes’ parents.

After confronting his brother about the forged signature via e-mail, Kevin Elliott said Baltes replied via e-mail that he would ask Pima County to withdraw the petition and disband the committee—once his electricity comes back on.

Earlier this week, Dan Baltes was accused by the Greater Phoenix Tea Party of running a scam known as the “Main Attraction,” where he promises a big name speaker—in this case, Glenn Beck—in exchange for VIP tickets costing $350 per person, but never delivers.

Baltes was also cited on Fox News on April 12 as the main figure in the recall effort of the Democratic Wisconsin state senators who left amid a budget vote last February.

He is also running an online 527 political group campaign in support of South Florida Congressman Allen West’s bid for president in 2012.

However, West has no intention to run for president in 2012, according to Jonathan Blyth, chief of staff for West.

  1. A bleeding heart liberal who’s carrying out Tea Party wet dream assignments? Sounds to me like the teabaggers hired this guy sight unseen, and without checking to see if he was as much a crook as the usual gang of criminals.

Here’s the wake-up call, teabaggers — if you’re hiring on the right, expect to be scammed, because that’s what your chosen sons and daughters do. Baltes/Elliot is no different from Christine O’Donnell, Glenn Beck, Rush Limbaugh, Sharron Angle, Russell Pearce, Joe Arpaio, and thousands upon thousands of others. Remember: act like sheep…get fleeced.

  2. I do not get it. Not being too familiar with the teabaggers shenanigans in this case. How can you hire a bleeding heart liberal ( no insult to me ) and expect the results you pay for, or expect ? Have the brains of the teapartiers in Tucson ( an oxymoron in itself, brains and teaparty ) been had? It could not happen to more deserving people.

  3. Guess Dupnik did not do his job and investigate this man that was leading a recall on him. If I was Sheriff, I would certainly would look into his background. That is why Dupnik needs to go. He is long overdo to retire. It is ashamed that this liberal con man tricked the good folks of Tucson in believing in him. The Tea Party was not involved with the recall on Sheriff Dupnik and never hired this man. This man is a liberal crook and took advantange of the good people in Tucson. Wake up Pima County, if Dupnik cannot do a background check on Dan Baltes alias Dan Elliot then we are in serious trouble. Also, look at the crime rate in our county verses the other counties. If Dupnik would do his job, we would not have such a high crime rate. The FBI Stats speak for themselves.

  4. Why, Czmuscledoctor, you would have Sheriff Dupnik investigate a man without probable cause of a crime having been committed? That sounds like fuzzy Phoenix thinking.

You might want to re-check your FBI stats too, Pima County is far safer than say Maricopa County.

Well,JoelFriday, we both know the answer to that question. That is what the baggers do. They can’t escape the message, so they attack the messenger. They are among the first to call names and then when retaliated against scream, “why do you libs always start calling names?” I especially love the baggers, who use to call liberals, fairies, pansies and hippies, and now we are the bullies. Ridiculous people without a clue.
