Doug Stanhope was in Tucson late November filming his stand-up comedy segments for the BBC’s satire television show, Weekly Wipe with Charlie Brooker. Stanhope chose Plush—of all the venues in the world—to perform his material about the similarities between the U.K.’s immigration situation and what he sees going on along the border near Bisbee.
“You’re right,” Stanhope said during his performance at Plush. “They probably don’t speak the language, and they probably have minimal education. And if that guy can show up like that, as qualified for your job as you are, then you are a fucking loser of such dynamic proportions.”
I was fortunate enough to attend the show and can assure any Stanhope fans that this clip is just the tip of the iceberg. I doubt the rest of the world will ever hear his joke about how there had to be plastic jug vodka flowing in Nowhere Man Derrick Ross’ blood, or I don’t see the BBC fitting in his bit on how the mass shooting on Jan. 8 could have been avoided if Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords done her job effectively.
Obviously, I can’t do his routine justice in a blog post. I guess it’s was full of those “you had to be there” jokes, even if it was set up for an audience that couldn’t be there at all.

What a sick bastard, making fun of people who’ve had their livelihood taken by 3rd world workers willing to do roofing for $8 per hour and live 5 families to a house, living off government health care, feeding their kids with food stamps, and not paying taxes.
Yeah, you can lose your job if someone is willing to do it for less than half what you need to get paid to live. It doesn’t mean you deserve to.
Guy’s obviously never had a real job or had to support his family on a blue collar wage. I think he deserves to lose his job.
The fact that so many people find Doug’s take on life so entertaining – and thought-provoking – is a pretty good indicator that he’s not going to have to worry about losing HIS job. The fact that you don’t know that illegal aliens DON’T qualify for food stamps and government health care tells me that you may just be one of those “f-ing losers of such dynamic proportions” who might well have reason to be worried about losing your job.
Good bloody luck.
Illegal aliens don’t qualify for food stamps, but their US citizen children do. Also both illegal and legal children qualify for free education, school meals, etc.
Illegal aliens use the emergency room and, if necessary, the hospital for free, paid for by you and me (well, me, at least). The hospital can’t collect, just has to write it off as bad debt and up charges on paying customers.
If an illegal alien gets hurt on the job, the business owner gets off scot free – just send them to the emergency room. No need to pay into workman’s comp fund like with legal workers. Pay the worker less, no payroll tax, no health insurance, no workman’s comp, just pocket the difference. Plus illegal worker won’t blow the whistle on dangerous working conditions.
Illegal aliens who qualify for deferred action qualify for government healthcare as well as a host of other benefits.
I don’t think Doug has “provoked” too many thoughts for you since you don’t reach basic conclusions beyond the very obvious.
Nice try, but a swing and a miss. Yes, their U.S. born children MAY qualify for Medicaid and food stamps. They ARE US. citizens, whether YOU like it or not. Do you have any hard data on the amount these U.S. citizens and their illegal alien parents are costing taxpayers, vs. the amount they contribute in taxes? HARD Data, Goober, not bullshit from FAIR and CIS. And what job did an illegal alien take from YOU? Melon picker? Roofer? Care detailer? Maid? Or are you one of those neurosurgeons who lost his job to a Guatamalan? There is indeed a need for comprehensive immigration reform that allows workers to legally cross the border and find work without having to play the sick and deadly game that exists today along the border. Those workers are often exploited by greedy bastards who are seldom prosecuted. Yes Goober, I AM a taxpayer and a civic-minded person who believes in putting more into the community than I take out, instead of grinding my teeth over a comedian’s routine, whining over a keyboard and hiding behind a pseudonym – like you.
