Conclusions I reached during the two weeks of conventions:

• There is not an American alive who could beat Bill Clinton in an election. There aren’t a whole lot of dead ones, either, although I think a Ronald Reagan-Bill Clinton race would be entertaining as all hell.

Clinton took Romney and Ryan and the entire Republican Party behind the woodshed and beat the livin’ piss out of ’em. He exposed them for what they are—out of touch with the dwindling middle class, with the principles of balancing a budget (about which Mr. Clinton will forever be able to boast) and, quite often, with the truth.

The two words I was happiest to hear come out of President Clinton’s mouth were “hate” and “arithmetic.” He used the latter to explain what he and the Republican

Congress used to balance the budget back in the late1990s.

It’s clever, because “arithmetic” is even more basic than “math.” The only people who can’t do arithmetic (as in balancing a runaway budget requires spending cuts and tax increases) are those who don’t want to do arithmetic.

His use of the word “hate” was especially important. As mentioned in this column recently, many people on the right (and/or in the Tea Party movement) really hate the president, a fact that is indisputable and quite disturbing. There have been bad presidents from both parties. Richard Nixon was a megalomaniacal clod; Jimmy Carter wasn’t up to the job; Bill Clinton signed the bill abolishing the Glass-Steagall Act; and George W. Bush got us into two unnecessary and protracted wars, pushed through an incredibly expensive Medicare prescription program and, at the same time, delivered huge tax cuts when he should have been raising taxes to pay for everything. All of them were wrong in one way or another, but none was hated in huge numbers like Barack Obama.

I wonder why that is.

• Sean Hannity is a dishonest little twerp. All through the spring and early summer, he railed about how President Obama was going to raise a billion dollars for his re-election campaign, calling it unfair and ridiculous. But then Romney pulled ahead in fundraising, and ever since, not a word from Hannity about money. What happened to all that talk about how big money was going to distort the political process? Hypocrite.

On the day of President Obama’s acceptance speech, the Dems moved the speech from a football stadium to the convention arena, citing weather concerns. The right jumped on this, claiming that the Obama people were concerned that the president would be speaking to a half-full stadium. Quite honestly, we’ll never know. Hannity, not content to have fun with that, went on the radio and claimed that the chances of rain in Charlotte, N.C., that day were “ZERO.” I went online to different weather sites, and they all said that the chances were at least 50 percent. You know that somebody has gone around the bend when he makes false statements that are easily looked up and refuted.

It did indeed rain in Charlotte that day, and there were thunderstorms in the area for hours. Something called The Washington Times reported that the rain let up just before the end of the president’s speech, which proves … what?

As a point of reference, that same day, much of Tucson was blasted by storms. Some parts of town got 2 inches of rain. Power was knocked out; washes ran deep; there were more than a dozen calls for swift-water rescues.

Officially, Tucson (at the airport) received a trace of rain that day.

• If you’re going to make a big deal out of the president’s middle name (Hussein), then fairness dictates that you also use Mitt Romney’s first name, which is Willard. I’m sorry, but Willard is way creepier than Hussein, even if you don’t know anything about the rat movie from the 1970s.

The only cool Willard I’ve ever known about was the character that the late Chris Penn played in the original Footloose. And he wasn’t even all that cool, seeing as how he dated Sarah Jessica Parker, and he couldn’t dance.

• Being the smartest person in the room (or at least having other people think you are) is a double-edged sword. Faux-intellectual jock-sniffers seem willing to convey that honor upon Paul Ryan, whether he deserves it or not. When the smartest person in the room says something, he is generally given the benefit of the doubt, because he’s so freakin’ smart. But when something he said is repeatedly shown to have been false, he gets no benefit of the doubt whatsoever. A dumb guy could have just made a mistake; the smart guy doesn’t make mistakes. He lies.

Where I come from, the three things you didn’t want to be were cheap, disloyal or a liar. The Republicans have shown that they view being cheap as a virtue. Judging by the way they treated the previous two GOP presidents, disloyalty is not that big a thing, either. But they should care about lying, because, in politics, if you’ve gotta lie, your argument is broken.

• Finally, if you weren’t choked up by Gabrielle Giffords leading the Pledge of Allegiance, you need to get off the planet, because you’re dragging the rest of us down.

  1. Sometimes I grab a copy of this commie rag just to pity liberals like Danehy of the grand delusion they live in. Whenever I read his articles, I wonder if he’s playing a Steve Colbert-type role, or just parodying the stereotypical leftist. I think he’s just a parody of himself.
So Danehy feels the Tea Party movement’s “hate” of the president is “an undeniable fact”. Too bad he, nor any of his ilk, can ever provide even a shred of evidence of this “fact”. I remember another Tea Party article he once wrote about a rally he attended, and according to Danehy, there seemed to not be any noticeable “hate” at the event. I wonder when moronic leftists will finally realize the utter folly of their constant accusations of “hate” and racism towards anyone who doesn’t idolize their exalted leader. It’s really getting old, and frankly, no one listens or even remotely believes it anymore.
And on the subject of lying, all politicians, at some point, lie. And they lie because hyper-emotional partisan morons like Danehy always fall for it. Yes, W lied. And Obama has been caught in a multitude of lies. As in “I really didn’t know Rev. Wright had such political leanings”, even though Barack & Michele spent Sunday mornings in his church for 20 years. Or how about, , “I don’t know Bill Ayers (convicted terrorist bomber), he’s just some guy in our neighborhood”, when in fact they babysat each others’ children for years, if not decades, before he became president.
So you see, no one believes an idiot like Danehy, who lies for his chosen liar and thus reveals his own lack of integrity. Oh and Danehy comments about the “double-edged” sword of being the smartest in the room?
Hey Danehy, Ill expect your next article to be about Obama’s Marine CorPse speech, or his claim that Hawaii is in Asia, and his statement about America’s 57 states, or his “my sons” speeches, or that the Malvinas are off the waters of Argentina…

  2. Appaently you were watching a different set of conventions than I. Or is it you are using a very biased set of lenses? I feel it was the laer. Although I do not see eye to eye with either party any longer, one thing I did see differently was the DNC talks and talks and really doesn’t say anything but it is Bush’s fault. You may think Clinton is the best thing since sliced bread, I find him to be a convicted liar and was often too busy getting head to deal with the nation’s problem. But at least he was willing to work with congress rather than dictate. Unlike the dmes, I did hear five points by the RNC; I don’t necessarily agree with them completely, but they had a direction. I am still in the air about which way to vote. Hopefully, the debates will shed some light on what either of these two will bring to the office.

  3. Danehy haters are the worst. You can almost see the spittle on Firelog’s computer screen. His hate for all liberals is exceeded only by his hatred for Tom, which is only exceeded by his hatred for Obama. Last time I checked, the definition of hate is to dislike intensely, or have a passionate aversion to something. That sounds like Firelog to me. To me, Romney came off at the convention as that bully everyone knew in high school who was always quick to attack others for being different from him. Ryan comes off like Eddie Haskell, that creepy kid from “Leave it to Beaver”, lying all the time with practiced smoothness. Clinton was absolutely charming during his convention speech. Why, I bet he could charm the pants off an intern. His famous charm is what got him in deep trouble in the first place. I enjoyed Clinton’s masterful speech, but at the same time, I saw that he’s still the same old snake oil salesman.

  4. Firelog, Congrats – you’ve learned the right-wing catechism so well. Thanks for not including original points of your own. To bad you didn’t: they might have stimulated some critical thinking.

Also, why resort to name-calling? Do you really feel that threatened by Mr. Denehy?

  5. Firelog, your ranting and calling people vile names is proof of the hatred that exists on the right.

    Thanks for proving the point.

  6. Denehy is the Hater in Chief here, by calling Tea-Partiers “KKK friends” during a different rant. It WAS the Dems, who were the KKK, and it was Republicans who died in support of the Blacks in the South.
Until the dialog is toned down by the LEFT with their control of the Major media, Universities, and Hollywood, America is not going to be able to come together. The Left does NOT want us to come together, they just want complete control, so their Fantasy Socialist Utopia can be tried here, at the expense of Freedom and Liberty.

  7. Welcome back, cempiremtn!

But may I ask you to cite a single example as how our duly elected US President Obama has limited your freedom?

  8. I wonder how church going Good Ol’ Tom felt about having to explain to his kids what a blow job is because of Clinton. Or maybe his kids had to explain it to him !! F.Y.I. Tom, the guy running for president is named Obama not Clinton.

  9. Hola, cempiremtn,

I’ve been now and then been dipping in here to read your post that will cite a single example as to how our duly elected President Obama has curtailed your freedoms.

  10. Regarding Firelog’s proof of hate whether it is the Teaparty or the Republican Party: Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader of the Senate stated day one, even before Obama proposed any changes that he (McConnell), would dedicate himself as Minority Leader to seeing that Obama was a one term president. In doing so, he has opposed EVERYTHING Obama has placed forward, even when it is in the Republican and potentially the Teaparty’s interest, and often in the entire country’s interest. That seems like blind hatred to spite ones own interests just to make a point. Why so many hate Obama is another long discussion. I won’t open that can of worms. Why did so many people accept the lies that got us into two wars without nearly as much hatred? . Weapons of mass destruction, Bush 2’s cronyism w/Saudi Arabian oil big wigs, a total disregard for victims of Katrina, the list could go on and on. Why wasn’t there as much obvious hatred of the Bush/Cheney administration? Partially I think it is due to the fact that much of this country is vengeful and blood thirsty. We wanted retribution for 9-11 and Iraq was close enough. Satisfied? Ask the soldiers that make it home. Ask the families of the veterans that are dying by their own hands at a higher rate than from the hands of the enemy. Hate is a strong word. I hope, I don’t have a genuine reason to hate anyone. But if you are looking for reasons to hate current or former presidents, the kind of reasons that doesn’t open up that can of worms I won’t open, I think even our brief and recent history can help you direct that hate if you follow facts.

  11. Must also add that when Tom Deheny proved the fact that, indeed, the Mavinas are located off the coast of Argentina, his post earned 2 dislikes.

    Amazing, simply amazing!

  12. Hey, Firelog, you’re wasting your time commenting on ANYTHING within the ‘Commie-rag’….what’s really eating you is everything Tom says about the Rebumplicans is true; they’re cheap, disloyal liars who expect the middle class to HELP them continue to destroy their livelihoods and their dignity. We’ll just see in November if the sheep continue down the path to their slaughter….

  13. And when I proved that in fact Demorat Sen. Byrd was a member of the K.K.K. I got 6 dislikes. Amazing, simply amazing !! As far as the blow job thing goes, If you’ve ever gotten one ( doubtful) you’d understand. The next time you’re aiding and abetting illegals sneaking into the U.S. maybe you could trade one of them a jug of water for one.

  14. The questions about bj’s, cw13 (aka, frank), is why you don’t come out of the closet and start giving them like you really, really want to. It’s OK in 2012 to be gay, bi, trans-gendered, even stupid. However, it’s not healthy for you (and those around you, icluding your co-workers who know) to be in denial. Get therapy and there’s still a chance for you to have a decent life.

  15. CW13 observes: “And when I proved that the Demorat (sic) Sen. Byrd was a member of the K.K.K. I got 6 dislikes.”

You were so correct to feel so sad that you got 6 dislikes, after – for perhaps, the first time ever here – you posted a comment that is factual.

To which my response is, “How many readers here know who Senator Bryd is?”

But I’m still wondering why you seem so obsessed by the topic of “blow jobs.”

My wonderment keeps arising when you posted this: “As far as the blow job thing goes, If you’ve ever gotten one (doubtful) you’d understand. The next time you’re aiding and abetting illegals sneaking into the U.S. maybe you could trade one of them a jug of water for one.”

Which leads me to wonder if your so obvious hatred of Mexicans might have arisen (so to speak) when you asked an “illegal” to give you, yourself, a BJ?

I’m guessing such didn’t work out so well.

    Correct?

  16. riorican, you ask how we are less free as a result of the hope and change scam (the duly elected U.S. President Obama).

Here is some of the cost of being a tool of the phony left/right paradigm. The core agenda is set by both parties fueled by the same financial backers:

    NDAA indefinite detention.

Drone assassinations of American citizens without due process.

Drone attacks of citizens in Yemen, Somolia, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Libya.

An unprecedented level of whistleblower retaliation.

Forcing citizens to buy health insurance through the IRS.

Making taxpayers bail out insolvent banks.

    Prison for water harvesting.

    Destruction of small farms.

    TSA gropings and molestation.

Kidnapping of veterans for their “patriotic” facebook posts.

False arrest of occupy activists for their association with “anarchists”.

The raid and subsequent destruction of state sanctioned medical marijuana facilities in Oakland and elsewhere.

    Restricting gun ownership for veterans.

Allowing wanton destruction of the environment in exchange for paltry fines (BP).

Allowing BP to enforce illegal curfews on public beaches.

Allowing banksters to destroy the economy and commit fraud with impunity.

Allowing a settlement for deficient mortgage contracts.

Engaging the U.S. through NATO in two illegal wars of “humanitarian plunder”.

Turning a blind eye to Sheriff Joe Arpaio’s civil rights abuses.

Turning a blind eye to the Bush administration’s war crimes, torture and rendition.

    Continued waterboarding in Libya.

Allowing CIA contractors to wantonly assassinate citizens in exchange for blood money in Pakistan
(and lying to the world about Raymond Davis’s diplomatic status).

Executive power grabs through orders claiming federal ownership of everyone’s resources whenever
the fed’s declare a circumstance to be a national emergency.

Allowing increased surveillance of U.S. citizens via trapwire, which includes extraneous use of red light cameras.

Restricting visa’s for citizens behind on their taxes.

Escalation and continued presence in two illegal wars: Afghanistan and Iraq.

Setting up an unconstitutional database of citizens through the biometric retina scans, fingerprints and photographs with no justification or probable cause. (HIIDE database system).

Chew on that. There’s plenty more.

  17. firelog, ” when in fact they babysat each others’ children for years, if not decades, before he became president.” Hmmm. Malia is 14 and Sasha is 11, So you are either lying, or Bill Clinton was right, you Don’t know arithmatic

  18. According to the genius Mr. Danehy, he was a PROUD graduate of Compton!! Where “arithmetic” and “math” are exceptional!!! Also, get the eff over Bill Clinton Dems…. LMAO Clinton “tell the truth”????? lol he couldn’t even say he got a little you-know-what…??? And he was the “MOST POWERFUL MAN in the WORLD!!!” By the way ask 98% of the readers of this recycled newspaper what’s the difference between “math” and “arithmetic…” well, at least the ones that aren’t worried about how awful our education system is like “math” and “arithmetic,” but rather about heritage… I’m a mexican-AMERICAN…. my Great-Granfather worked in the Morenci mines for over 45 years to allow and earn my right to say that!!!AND HE NEVVVER EVVVER let me or my family forget it!! I am 100% AMERICAN. Thank you Grandpa!
The “hate” comment? Lol I won’t even waste breathe on that… u All still blame and “Hate” Bush every comment you can… Ask the two WELL paid comedians u watch on cable television….
Hannity? Ya, he’s a far-right yapper… do i dare name ALLLLLL of the left-wingers on television??? When I first met you Tom… you supposedly didn’t watch TV?? Or, let me guess u just listen to radio and read (liberal) papers….
Next, are you really calling out the Tea Party for not being meteorologists? Hence, why you admitted it DID rain? And ended your paragraph with the phrase…. “what?”
Now, “faux-intellectual jock-sniffers???” Smartest person in the room???? Wow… that sounds EXTREMELY familiar???? Oh, wait… that’s right… Obama could speak and debate great!!! Yet how long did he ACTUALLY serve as a Senator in Chicago before going on his campaign versus McCain?? But, he WASSS the best Dem canidate??? Pleeassee??? Better yet, puppet? I will admit, they ALLLLL are; but still… what was it? Two months before campaigning??
Where I COME FROM… ARIZONA… AMERICA…. YOU WORK for EVERYTHING you “think” you deserve…. You definitely don’t want to be “cheap, disloyal or a liar.” As, you say in your article…. Yet, deserving food stamps for having babies you can’t afford, then being proud of a country you leave and not the one everyone is paying for your children and you to survive???? Hmmmm… Cheap and disloyal must have different definitions in Compton buddy…. Still love you though, because i am American…. xoxo

  19. Geesh. I read these comments and it’s no surprise we’re seeing more Independents in Arizona. I’ll also show them to the next person thinking about running for office… ANY office. Care to work in a swamp?

  20. You’re all correct; my bad, the Malvinas are the Falklands. Rather, the president called the Malvinas (Falklands) the Maldives, which are in the Indian Ocean. And all of you trying to find “hate” in my email, well, it just isn’t there, and you know it.
There are plenty of liberals with extreme communist or socialist leanings in this country with whom I wholeheartedly disagree. However, I don’t hate them. In fact, hardcore lefties and I may actually concur on abortion, the environment, and other salient issues. So please stop embarrasing yourselves, leftists, and drop the “hate” accusations.
And Mr. Riorican: besides those curtailed freedoms others listed above, also understand that a president can curtail freedoms by not selectively enforcing laws he’s forsworn to enforce, which our president has clearly done on the Southern Arizona border. And I’m not preaching any “right wing catechism”. Unlike you, I choose to actually see and accept the truth of what’s happening in this country. Spending is out of control, the national debt will sink us, Obamacare is ruining healthcare as we know it, welfare rolls are burgeoning, blacks have unleashed their angry flash-mob violence across the country (wasn’t this supposed to stop with a black president?), and the President is growing the size and scope of government (despite the Clinton years’ re-engineering of government, which reduced its size & cost). So, unlike your lockstep love of Barry Soetoro, or Barack Obama (whatever his true name is), I form opinions based on what I actually see and feel.

  21. Golly, Firelog, we do, indeed have much in common: just like you, I have a very hard time hating.

But I just wish there were some way I could take a hike with you down in the Santa Cruz River Valley where I have not met a single trespassing migrant over the past two years. (As compared to the Bush years, when I met at least 10, 12 a day.)

As for your claim that there are “liberals with extreme communist or socialist leanings?”

Truth be told, I’ve never met a single one. Have you? Really? When? Where?

As for your claim “that blacks have unleashed their angry flash-mob violence across the country?”

Wow, that’s new news to me!

Could you kindly post a link to enlighten me?

As for your “black president” Obama “growing the size and scope of government?”

So far as I know, he has yet to have done as well as Ronald Reagan and GWB.

PS: Who the heck is Barry Soetoro?

  22. This is c.w. 13. For some reason my profile vanished while I was gone.Sorry this took so long but I have things to do other than check my computer every 3 hours for e-mails and moronic messages from fools like riorican and conphx. Friday morning me and 3 of my bros fired up the bikes and took a putt up to Pinetop for the weekend. Cool weather, great roads to ride and lots of honkey-tonks loaded with fine ladies who love big Harleys and those of us who ride them. Of course none of the liberals who read this know who Sen. Byrd is. All they know is what they want to know. Facts kill them. Simon and Garfunkle’s ” The Boxer” A man hears what he wants to hear and disregards the rest. The liberal mantra. I really don’t care that idiots who don’t even know me think I’m a gay, big mouth, right-wing, knuckle dragging moron who’s motorcycle is an extension of his manhood. I’ve heard it all. I didn’t even get crazy when a few weeks ago when some civil liberal accused me of having sex with my deceased mother. When I bitched about it I got 5 dislikes. Amazing, simply amazing. I’ll tell you what does piss me off is when some limp dick, ball-less asshole accuses me of hating Mexicans. If you really feel that way, you wouldn’t last 14 days working for Pima County, never mind 14 years like I did. Ask Tony Gonzales who’s son I God fathered how much I hate Mexicans. Ask the Mexican families who live on both sides of me what a rotten, racist neighbor I am. Anytime you want to tell me to my face that I hate Mexicans, name the time and place. I’ll be there with bells on.
