Rosemont Mine? No, actually, according to local activists, it’s Rosemont Ours.
You probably heard about it during election season. A Canadian mining company is looking to build a 14,000 acre open-pit copper mine in the Santa Rita mountains southeast of Tucson.
Rosemont Ours is a collaboration between NEW ARTiculations Dance Theatre and artist/filmmaker Ben Johnson. The group is trying to draw attention to the wildlife that would be impacted by the mine thorough a 10-15 minute dance film.
In the Kickstarter video, dancers are seen holding themselves up in trees to mimic cuckoos and crouching in a shallow pond to portray leapfrogs.
“Here, the human body is window through which we are raising awareness about a rage of species, many of which are federally recognized as threatened or endangered,” Johnson says in the video.
The film will be shot on location, where the mine is proposed to be constructed.
They’re working to fund the film through a Kickstarter Campaign.
Perks for pledging include tickets to a screening of the film, a signed Rosemont Ours poster and a DVD of the film. For $1,000 donors can receive a guided nature walk and on-site performance by project dancers. There are 15 days left on the campaign and the group is just under $2,000 shy of their goal.
For a more in-depth look into what to expect from the finished film, check out the film below. It was uploaded when the campaign reached its halfway point and features two dancers nestled in fabric and hanging from the celling to represent lesser long-nosed bats:

Now we have a bunch of dancers trying to profit over the contraversy surrounding the Rosemont Copper project.
To counter that, isn’t Rosemont trying to gain a profit as well?
Inasmuch as they cannot used science based information to discredit an important, indeed vital project, they use art(??).
Too bad they cannot focus their energy in helping America return to its former greatness by supporting a natural resource project. This is how the West was won and this is how America became a great country.
An afterthought David I hope Rosemont is planning to profit from the development of this mine. This is what employs people, purchases goods and services and supports the fundamental functions of local government.
And too, I suspect that you seek to engage in profitable activities.
Interesting and the cuckoo was the most accurate depiction… One has to wonder if they have permission to perform, film and make lead paid tours on private property? Are they sharing their fundrasing with Rosemont Copper?
Kudos to these creative young adults for their ingenuity and perseverance! This mine is the project of a Canadian multi-national corp. that will only bring destruction to our beautiful area. The Corporation will profit immensely and leave devastation in its wake.
WOW, what a bunch of Gender confused wackos(in the Frog world the Male typically rides on the larger female), I wish I ‘d never hit play on this one.
wonder if they got all there facts from Barber.
How many times have this fools been at Rosemont before 2010, they probably never heard of it until the Mine started to talk about it.
better not comment what I think about the “Performance”
Hey Cam, you’re kidding right? Surely you know it’s not private property. Rosemont owns some land out there, but they are planning to destroy 4,000 acres of public land in the Coronado National Forest along with it, because they can’t mine the private parcel without the public land. That’s why we, the people, the taxpayers, the owners of the public land, have every right to stop them from doing it.
