As only he can, Jon Stewart points out the hypocrisy of those on the far right demonstrating in front of buses of Central American migrant children and our elected officials pontificating on the floors of Congress—completely missing the basic principles on which this country was founded. In last night’s segment, “America’s Immigration Crisis: Kids Edition,” Stewart nails it right here:
Why would you not come to a place that great? In fact, it’s why all of our ancestors came to this country, and were themselves originally unwelcome. Because that’s the story of America. From Ben Franklin’s worry that Germans were ruining Pennsylvania, to our 19th century 60-year ban on the Chinese immigrants who had just finished building our rail system, to our very real and justifiable concerns about the Irish, and their insatiable “applying for jobs”.

We can’t wait for tonight to see how Stewart and Stephen Colbert tear apart bus-chasing AZ Rep. Adam Kwasman and his embarrassing rant on YMCA campers he thought were migrant children.

At least the constant parade of laughable fiascoes is good for something…
I think we’re all Bozos protesting this bus
Yeah, why have immigration laws at all? Or any laws for that matter?
It’s interesting that most of the protesters who showed up in Oracle came from upscale areas of Northwest Tucson like Oro Valley and Saddlebrooke. Most of these people’s interactions with brown people is that they’re the ones who maintain their landscaping and clean their homes.
Wooo, wooo brown children (infected with disease and violent criminals) are coming over the horizon to take over your faux Santa Fe neighborhoods!
I like the Firesign Theater reference mr. Hahn. And Bslap, there are plenty of immigration laws. Not enough INS workers to get the backlog of immigrants going through the system, not enough of our money from investors to kick start factories, agriculture, or education in these Central American countries. Good grief, wouldn’t it be better to make the Americas-Central and South better in terms of a more unified hemisphere here, to fight off growing insurgencies from the Middle East that threaten our ways-yes, ways of life. Think melting pot with added spices from our neighbors south of us.
