The Weekly reported yesterday that Democrat Victoria Steele, who is facing fellow former state lawmaker Matt Heinz in the August Democratic primary that will decide who faces Republican Congresswoman Martha McSally in the November general election, had a lousy fundraising quarter and could be losing her campaign manager.
We heard back to Team Steele after we posted our story. It turns out that a shake-up is in the works. Campaign manager Keith Rosendahl is leaving the campaign, although new spokesman Ed Dunin-Wasowicz tells the Weekly that the parting was amicable.
Dunin-Wasowicz said he and Karen McGarrity would be taking over management of the campaign and a new field director, Nicholas Yollich, has arrived in town from Florida this week.
Steele herself, in a statement via email, downplayed the significance of her fundraising numbers. (She raised less than $40,000 in the first quarter of the year and spent nearly as much, leaving her with less than $45,000 in the bank.)
“Do not underestimate the power of grassroots campaigns,” Steele said. “We are a community movement that will take our district back. One issue that I will fight the hardest for in Congress will be cleaning up the corrupt financing system that has candidates begging for checks instead of earning votes.”

I’m tired of people trying to buy my votes with negative TV ads. McSilly’s handlers know NOTHING about Southern AZ. They just want to hang on to their evil majority.
If Victoria Steele is sincere; she should start at the State level and arrest every State Congressperson who is taking money from the Koch Brothers. And anyone who doesn’t think McSally isn’t taking from the Kochs are their ilk should take new meds. Look at McSallys backward votes……taking us back to the 50’s. She has voted yes on every regressive piece of legislation in the Congress. She and McCain both get voters from Tucsonans openly because we still have the A-10’s flying out of David-Monthan. Other than that I don;t see a single thing she has done since she has been in office that takes a single progressive step forward to helping our State or our district. Ms. Steele; good luck to you. We need a Democratic Congress desperately.
Sorry Thomas but everybody doesn’t want to be a progressive. Most ideas are poorly planned, too expensive and provide little in the way of results.

I like the sound of that, Congresswoman Victoria Steele elected by local grassroots citizens campaign. Found out they have opened a volunteer campaign office 5151 N Oracle and looking for volunteers to work out of the office. Put me down for Wednesday and Thursday mornings…first I guess I better go over and let them know I like their campaign style. Shoestring politics, not under the thumb of dark money and high priced handlers. Join me, I’m sure we’ll be welcome.
Steele might be worth a look if she weren’t so rabidly anti-gun owner.
Victoria Steele is the type of individual we Need To Elect here in Tucson. John McCain and Martha McSally are the typical Republicans who side with the rich Republican donors, take their money and carry out their agendas, and heck with the individuals who live in the districts that require true and honest leadership. Honest individuals, which McSally and McCain are not, need take care of the pressing issues that plague our city and state. McCain and McSally should Never be allowed to be Bought by the rich ever!!!! Get Them All Out Of Politics, stop taking the bribes and run the race as it should be run. Fair and Square without the Payouts to the pocketbook!!!! Elect Victoria Steele, who will and can do the Job the right way. She stands by guiding principals that we can be proud of and she can be trusted!!!
