The history of the Internet, going back to Uselessnet in the mid 1990s, demonstrates that any open online forum will quickly be commandeered by extremists and wackos who don’t have the guts to sign their real names to their loathsome spew. They can’t properly spell, punctuate or gram, either. The Star and Citizen might as well abandon the idea of unmoderated public comments, because they amount to no more than a public embarrassment. I have my doubts about some of the comments posted here at the TW blog, too, but at least the situation isn’t as out of control as at the dailies.

    And yes, “James Reel” is my real name.

    Here’s a guess as to topics. Crime! It’s the Mexicans’ fault! Republicans lost elections! It’s the Mexicans’ fault! Crime! It’s the Mexicans’ fault! My Cable TV price is going up! It’s the Mexicans’ fault! E-Coli in my salad! It’s the Mexicans’ fault!
    Why would I want to disguise my name? Dude, I’ve just cleaned up the ashes from last burning cross. And have you tried to get a Mexican to clean your yard when there’s a freakin’ burning cross on it? They don’t speak a drop of English, but they sure-as-hell know what THAT means! Hasta la vista baby!

  3. How did I do? failed insult for you (you’re one of the better writers in this rag). I did manage to bulk masturbation in a circle and patriots and chritians and conservatives AND cross burning into one wad. I take it back about the patriots. And the Mexicans? They screwed everything up!

  4. Being a full-time moderator is, like, a full-time job! Doubt the Wicked will foot the bill for THAT and same goes for the Star. Not having a moderator makes it more difficult to filter the idiots and it also puts legitimate journalists at some risk. The risk of inadvertently stooping to the level of the responder. After all once you lend your “REAL” name to the post you’ve signed it, and if you’re a “pro” then that may be lumped with ALL of your writings. Yes?
