A white cop pulling a gun on a white woman? No way! She could be packing a bazooka and she’d be safe. But a black person with a cell phone? Shoot first and ask questions later.
In 2015, The Washington Post launched a real-time database to track fatal police shootings, and the project continues this year. As of Sunday, 1,502 people have been shot and killed by on-duty police officers since Jan. 1, 2015. Of them, 732 were white, and 381 were black.
IRT Somebody is nuts.
Considering the fact that black people make up something like 13% of the American population, the numbers of black people killed by police should only be about 95 for the entire country for the time period you provided.
Or, if you’d like to reverse the math, cops should have killed nearly 3,000 white people but only killed 1,502. So, given the numbers you provided, black people are being killed by cops three times faster, or more often, than white people.
