  1. The “World according to Mitch” claytoon misses a more important point than the obvious one about McConnell’s slip. Stripped of that red flag, his statement actually highlights the reality that Black, Hispanic, Native American, and Asian voters are underrepresented in the voting booth. If you look at the actual percentage of vote for all five groups (White being the fifth) as a whole, It is a fact that Black participation is just about the average of general population. That, because Native Americans, Hispanics and Asians are so much more underrepresented and pull the averages lower. If you compare Blacks to Whites and exclude the other groups, then Blacks are certainly underrepresented.

    However, even if that were not the case, the goal of a democracy should be to maximize participation not justify why so many people aren’t taking part.

    Quite simply, our national system needs review and probably will require a constitutional convention to get things straight. I, for one, don’t think Mitch McConnell is fit to serve in that convention since he clearly doesn’t get it.
