Rhonda did her usual great job in summarizing last Thursday’s debate among the four Republicans seeking to unseat Democratic Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords.

At the end of the debate, many Republicans in the crowd were buzzing about Brian Miller’s closing statement, in which he hammered state Sen. Jonathan Paton for representing the “brand of big-government Republicans that brought us into the mess we’re in today” and Jesse Kelly for “being wrong on extremely important and showing an unwillingness to examine issues very closely” and for having a campaign that’s “enabled by millions in stimulus money.”

“On the one hand, you can accept the hollow echo of Jesse W. Bush,” Miller said. “On the other hand, you can accept the hollow echo of Jonathan McPaton.”

Several Republicans I spoke with afterwards said they thought Miller had crossed the line and done serious damage to his own political future. Watch it yourself in the above clip posted by JeremyINTucson1 and make up your own mind.

Getting hassled by The Man Mild-mannered reporter

  1. What a GREAT REPUBLICAN ! Did he say something that was false, or is he only being criticized for speaking an inconvenient truth.

  2. I watched it, and it sounds to me like Miller just spoke the truth. Maybe it was the wrong time to say it, but Kelly gets way too much attention when he is mostly full of hot air. And Miller has legitimate points about Paton as well. Why is it bad to point our your opponent’s weaknesses?

  3. It is wrong now to voice ones opinions and/or the truth? That is all that I have seen from Brian Miller. You might not agree with him; however, he has the right and I would also say obligation to point out the other candidates shortfalls. I applaud Brian Miller for his candid comments and agree with his assessments!
