Republican Martha McSally, who is seeking to unseat Congressman Ron Barber (D-CD2) this year, reported raising a staggering $653,107 in the second quarter of 2014.

That’s McSally’s best three-month quarter to date and about $100,000 more than the $550,000 Barber reported raising last week.

It’s the fourth quarter in which McSally has outraised Barber. Over the last year, she has raised $1.8 million for her rematch against Barber. In 2012, Barber defeated McSally by fewer than 3,000 votes.

“Even with Nancy Pelosi lining his pockets, Martha has outraised Congressman Barber for four straight quarters because people are sick and tired of the status quo in Congress and looking for a Representative with a fresh approach,” said McSally campaign spokesman Patrick Ptak in press release announcing the fundraising haul. “Congressman Barber and his Washington cronies have been working overtime to spin his dismal record and mislead voters, but today’s numbers prove people aren’t buying it. Martha McSally brings the new ideas and experienced background the people of Southern Arizona are looking for, and she has the momentum and strong support of grassroots on her side.”

Updated: Team Barber spokeswoman Ashley Nash-Hahn emailed The Range with a comment on McSally’s fundraising.

“While Ron’s campaign leads McSally’s in cash on hand, the truth is that both campaigns will have the money to communicate their message,” Nash-Hahn said. “The real question is who is on the side of people in Southern Arizona? While McSally’s plans to privatize Social Security, cut Medicare and cancel the student loan program scare Southern Arizonans, Ron Barber has been fighting to get the job done for our community.”

  1. Barber’s dismal record is one of voting with the Republicans on every issue that matters. Is it a wonder why actual Democrats won’t open their wallets for him?

  2. “Voting with party
    2013

The website OpenCongress tracks how often members of Congress vote with the majority of the chamber caucus. According to the website, Barber has voted with the Democratic Party 82.1% of the time. This ranked 196th among the 201 House Democrats as of June 2013.[58]”

Not the worst voting record for a D, but very near to it. He votes with the Rs for anything with “Security” in the title, more spending on military, border patrol and the extension of the “patriot” act that makes people who complain about his voting record into enemies of the state.

Some notable votes on National security

    “NDAA

Voted “Yes” Barber voted for HR 1960 – the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2014. The bill passed the House on June 14, 2013, with a vote of 315 – 108. Both parties were somewhat divided on the vote.[8]

    DHS Appropriations

Voted “Yes” Barber voted for HR 2217 – the DHS Appropriations Act (2014) Act of 2014. The bill passed the House on June 6, 2013, with a vote of 245 – 182 that was largely along party lines.[9]

    CISPA (2013)

Voted “Yes” Barber voted for HR 624 – the CISPA (2013). The bill passed the House on April 18, 2013, with a vote of 288 – 127. The bill would allow federal intelligence agencies to share cybersecurity intelligence and information with private entities and utilities. The bill was largely supported by Republicans, but divided the Democratic Party.[10]”

And there is the Farm bill…

Much to criticize, but still better than the alternative this election.

  3. How much of the money she raised actually came from folks she supposedly wants to represent (CD-2) and much is out of state big bucks that have no interest in representing those of us who live here?

I do not always agree with Rep. Barber, but there is no way that McSally would be my choice instead of him.

  4. Looks like the national republican big money is thinking that CD2 might prefer a “real” republican to republican-lite…

However, I agree 100% with Ldonyo, maybe now she can buy an opinion on something or a policy position, eh?

Ron never met a war budget he couldn’t love and continues to piss away more treasure on the National Security State but at least he HAS policies and opinions whether one likes them or not…
