Republican Senate candidate Jeff Flake is out this morning with a new web video linking Democratic opponent to President Barack Obama. It’s adopting the “rubber stamp” model that the National Republican Congressional Committee tried to use against Democrat Ron Barber, who beat Republican Jesse Kelly in the June special election to complete Gabby Giffords’ term.

Meanwhile, the Carmona campaign (which rolled out its own bio spot of Carmona yesterday) announced that it had snagged the endorsement of family members of legendary Republican senator Barry Goldwater. The release from the Carmona campaign:

Joanne Goldwater and members of the Goldwater family endorsed Rich Carmona for U.S. Senate on Wednesday. Joanne is the oldest daughter of late-Arizona Sen. Barry Goldwater.

Family members Joanne Goldwater, CC Goldwater and Ty Goldwater announced their support for Carmona—a Special Forces veteran, Pima County Deputy Sheriff and 17th Surgeon General of the United States—on the first day of the general election campaign at Barry Goldwater Memorial Park.

“There’s no doubt that my dad viewed himself as a conservative, but he put serving Arizona over serving any ideology. I don’t see the same from Congressman Jeff Flake. Congressman Flake has tried to claim the ‘conservative’ mantel, but my dad’s brand of conservatism is not reflected by Flake or the modern-day Republican Party,” said Joanne Goldwater.

Granddaughter CC Goldwater said, “Conservatives insist they believe in freedom, as long as it’s not a woman’s freedom to make her own health choices. Congressman Flake has voted to defund Planned Parenthood, block access to contraception and even partnered with Congressman Todd Akin on a bill attempting to redefine rape.”

“Our family has always believed in equality for all Arizonans,” said Ty Goldwater. “My grandfather believed that no matter your race, ethnicity or sexual orientation, you’re no less deserving of your full constitutional rights. We need Arizona’s next Senator to be committed to the same set of beliefs.”

  1. Having trouble with the syntax here; members of Barry Goldwater? Throbbing members? Members of his family perhaps…:)

  2. At least with Carmona we would have a Senator who correctly understands and can describe the real workings of the reproductive system.

  3. Correct Kay Aubrey-Chimene, many of the most conservative Republicans regard a woman’s reproductive organs (which they’ll never call by a proper name – no “vagina” for these folks), are strange nether regions which must be protected at all cost against contraception or abortion.

They’re also somewhat opposed to rape, but only if it’s of the “legitimate” variety.

  4. Carmona is someone who could beat Flake…

Carmona’s an actual sane, rational human being with whom one can discuss issues not a cipher pushing the republican inhumane agenda with meaningless, fact-challenged, facile sound bites…

Although the HUGE Citizen’s United money will be behind the flakester…

If only the national Dems would find some money for GetOutTheVote here in Arizona where the demographic is changing rapidly…

Obama might even be able to ride Carmona’s coat tails…

  5. Dr. Carmona is a remarkable man but he’s an economic ignoramous. He thinks Obamacare is economically sustainable without rationing. I guess Econ 101/102 wasn’t a required course in pre-med.

  6. My whole family’s voting Carmona; we’ve had enough of Republican bigotry and misogyny. Brewer, Pearce & Arpaio have done enough damage to Arizona. If any more Republicans gain office in this state, our poor economy will take an even deeper dive.

  7. Carmona is too much of a political coward to take a stance on anything. If he knew he was being filmed way back when, he never would have said he supported ObamaCare. It was a Democratic group during his Democratic primary. Only reason he said it.

Flake will beat this phony by 10

  8. As a Tucson Democrat I’m fine to say that Rich Carmona is a first-class phony. This guy ran our hospital into the ground, he’s never done anything for our party, and now he changes registration out of political convenience to satisfy his imense ego. Well eff that! Rich has refused to be seen with many in our party to pretend that he’s somehow above it all, yet he can’t even articulate a cogent position. As much as I hate to see Flakey be our senator, I, and most of my friends plan to let Carmona stew in an epic loss. Maybe next time our party will nominate one of our own!
