Republican Ben Buehler-Garcia wants a rematch with Tucson City Councilwoman Karin Uhlich.
Buehler-Garcia, who lost to Uhlich in 2009 by less than 200 votes, filed as a candidate for the Ward 3 City Council seat on Friday, Feb. 22.
“I think the challenges facing our community are jobs and the economy,” Beuhler-Garcia said. “Crime is an issue.”
He cited Tucson’s recent ranking as the sixth-poorest major metropolitan area in the nation, as well as the lousy condition of Tucson’s streets.
He said it was unacceptable that “a full third of our children are living below the federal poverty level” and complained that an encounter with a pothole a few years ago “cost me $1,200 and two ruined rims and probably would have killed me if I’d been on a bicycle.”
Buehler-Garcia, who is first Republican to announce plans for a campaign this year, said he ran four years ago “because I am so passionate about this city’s potential and we’ve drifted so far from it. We’ve got a lot going for us.”
Uhlich told The Range she was “looking forward to what I’m sure will be a spirited and civil campaign.”
“I’m feeling good about the past four years and I’m looking forward to focusing on my record and the positive things done by this council,” Uhlich says.
Ward 6 Councilman Steve Kozachik and Ward 5 Councilman Richard Fimbres are also up for reelection this year.

The weird thing about this Buehler-Garcia guy, who’s been lurking around Republican circles for years, is that he never says what he does for a living, and doesn’t seem to have ever been employed anywhere.
I wonder what his resume would say about his career, if he were ever asked to produce one.
Anyone would be better than Karen Uhlich, I say lets get rid of all the City Council and start over. They all need to be replaced! Justification is Rio Nuevo and the Modern Day Street Car, which isn’t modern at all! So, let’s get rid of the stupid and get some people with intelligence in office! My compliments to Buehler-Garcia!
Well he can’t be any more corrupt and inept (or a dissapointing turncoat) than what we have now.
On LinkedIn he states he’s

Mr. Buehler-Garcia seems to be suffering from the same brand of amnesia that the Star and Weekly are displaying.
You all conveniently forget that the ONLY reason that the last election was as close as it came out was because Green Candidate Mary DeCamp earned a few thousand Progressive votes that would have otherwise gone to Karin.
Ward III is a Progressive District in a predominantly Progressive Town and some day, the folks in Tucson will realize that there is only ONE party with Progressive Values and Platform; the Green Party.
Check it out folks:

Mister Midtown – I had that same issue with Ron Barber. I tried to find a resume on him and came up empty.
I just want anybody who is not currently on the town clowcial to win.
Ben is an economic development/TEREO/Chamber of Commerce guy.
Enough for me to not support him.
I have a plan to stop the fighting between the Council and people who are trying to turn this City around. It will also bring national media exposer to the what is actually going on in Tucson, since our local media refuses to expose the Council. I have contacts with Hollywood producers who are interested in doing a reality TV show on the City Council and Mayor. This would allow us to continue down the path of failure, but have a means of generating some revenues to pay for it. It has been entertaining, but most of us can’t afford further tickets to the show. I am onto something here that would allow the Council and the Chamber of Commerce to continue to create special interest projects. The nuttier the Council gets, the higher the ratings, the more the show would generate. Think about this, something has to be done, or you will run out of taxpayer money and the comedy show will have to end some day anyway.
