In what is another not-so-great PR move for our city, noted-campus-preacher/rape-justifier Brother Dean Saxton is the subject of an 11 minute profile on Vice.com today. Vice tends to fetishize outsiders and those making terrible choices with their lives, and I suppose this is no exception.
The strangest/most depressing section, following not long after a clip of Dean yelling at someone to lose weight:
“I used to have a lot of people I’d hang out with, but when I decided to start preaching, I decided I was willing to give up everything…The preaching puts someone into a wilderness, a wilderness of aloneness. If you decide to do what the Bible says, you will be alone most of the time. Being passionate about anything, there will come a cost. The cost that I had to pay, and that anyone else who wants to do this will pay, you won’t have many friends at all. And there won’t be that many people who want to talk to you.”
It might be just a clever edit, but then the interviewer asks Dean how many people he considers to be close friends. Dean doesn’t seem to respond. He just rubs his head, confused by the question, the answer or both.

Preach against the sin of immodesty? Yell into the mirror brother. Immodestly does not just pertain to sexual behavior. In almost every list, pride (Latin, superbia), or hubris (Greek), is considered the original and most serious of the seven deadly sins, and the source of the others. Brother Dean, you are charged with the sin of pride. You will not hear the voice of God until you shut up and start listening, you immodest hypocrite.
