If you’ve spent any extended period of time in Albuquerque, there’s a good chance you’ve stopped into Blake’s Lotaburger by now, seeing as the fast food spot has been there since 1952. Blake’s also already has restaurants in Texas, however Tucson is about to get the first location in the state for the New Mexico restaurant chain.

According to the Albuquerque Journal, Blake’s plans to open the first of a few planned Old Pueblo joints at 2810 East Speedway Boulevard by mid-summer. The company’s business development manager, Craig Wood, told the Albuquerque Journal that there were no plans to expand outside of Tucson in Arizona at this time.

So, just what is a Lotaburger?

The restaurant also is known for serving up chili dogs, seasoned fries, breakfast burritos, milkshakes, pulled pork sandwiches and breaded chicken sandwiches. Blake’s also occasionally features specials like fish and chips as well as a “50 to 1” burger with two burger patties, two strips of bacon, cheese and Hatch green chiles.

  1. At last! I moved here from Albuquerque almost 25 years ago. When I got here, I noticed, sadly, that there were no Blake’s. I thought Whataburger would be a good substitute: not bad, but not even close to the wonderfulness that is Blake’s. I can’t wait!

  2. I would much rather see a real “Maid Rite” open up–Blake’s is pretty run of the mill and not that great in my experience.

  3. This is great, best burger chain in the U.S., blows my mind that they are going outside of NM. I’ve E-mailed them in the past and they firmly said they would never go outside NM. Granted the GCCB’s offered in the bars and mom & pop joints are better, but Blakes can’t be beat as far as a chain goes. The standard Whataburger is real good, but their GCCB’s are too dry. I will admit Blakes fries are lousy, I rarely eat fries anyway. Best chain fries are Nathan’s Famous. There, I’m done.

  4. When I worked in AZ state government in the 1980s there was a Blake’s just south of the Capitol at about 15th Ave and Grant in Phoenix that was a frequent lunch spot for me and my fellow workers. We were sorry to see it fall to urban decay. I will be happy to revisit Blake’s the next time I’m in Tucson!

  5. Here it is, a week an a half into August and the location shows no work done to turn it into a Blake’s. Have they changed their mind?

  6. Yum yum for my tum tum!!!! Been in Tucson for 8 months from living in Albuquerque for 27 years..really miss Golden Pride breakfast burritos and of course Blakes Lota burger green chile cheese bugers!!!! My mouth is watering thinking about them…

  7. Ran out of Green Chili today!! Your whole marketing campaign is about green chili. Close your doors and run up the “FAIL” flag…
