My family is Roman Catholic and (used to) attended mass at the Santa Rosa Mission off of Grant and i-10. The Priest never really talked about gay marriage or abortions, but he always preached against alcoholism and infidelity. It’s not really safe, but drive around “OP” during the Fariseos and see why these are topics of discussion. My family is mostly comprised of bigots, continue to have more kids they can’t afford, and proudly claim they are religious people and believe they are going to heaven. My cousins and family members my age aren’t as racist as our elders, but I’m much more hopeful for their kids.

Hopefully Pope Francis’ words in today’s New York Times interview helps inspire a better crop of open-minded devout catholics for the future. Pope Frankie should take a trip to Washington and perform an exorcism and vanquish the gay hating, anti-women’s rights demons and this banal mindset.

  1. Use to attend Mass? What value are your views when you do not value Keep Holy the Lord’s Day. In a way it sounds like you are an unrighteous Bigot. If you knew the Catholic Church and what it has taught for close to 2,000 years you would still be there. A person does not leave a Church because they were not entertained or because they were preached to in a way they did not like or want. You go to Mass to WORSHIP, it is not about you or me, it is ALL about Him who died on the cross for you and me, Worship, just Worship!

  2. Pope Francis’ words sound very similar to Jesus’ words…Comforting, rather than confrontational and hostile. This is the Jesus who attracts all to him. He and Tomas Merton, are the Universal(Catholic)Church…practicing love and compassion. Attending to the injured and wounded… Much like a field hospital… That is the Church of Francis…I really like that. Sincerely, Micky Smythe.

  3. Another liberal attempt to spin the words of the Pope. He is a master at communication, much like Ronald Reagan, who spoke positively, but did not surrender his core beliefs. If you want confirmation of this, read the canceled interview with CBS’ Chris Mathews right before the Pope’s election, the Pope ate this guy’s lunch and the liberal agenda. Hence, the reason CBS did not run the interview.

  4. I’m sorry to say that the “canceled interview with CBS’ Chris Mathews” is a fraud. Although an interesting take it never happened. http://www.snopes.com/politics/religion/ma… Pope Francis seems much more inclusive than the interview shows. You can read the snopes report or just check what Mathews actually said when the good cardinal became pope.
