We Tucsonans know that the best Mexican restaurants north of the border are found right here in the our town, but it was not until recently that the vortex of sabor Mexicana was identified with “The Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food”! With the skill of a corrupt redistricting commission, all of the best Mexican eateries were gerrymandered into one district!
Of course, the identification of the “Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food” is a challenge to lesser regions, the likes of which cannot hold a candle to the eateries of the Old Pueblo, but it also is an opportunity for us locals to take a look around and see if we missed something special, or to reconnect with some with some old favorites.
To that end, the foodies at the “Wake Up Tucson!” radio show have joined with Gray Line Tours to create the first ever “Best 23 Miles of Mexican Food! Tour”. The tour starts at El Mercado San Agustin at 5:30 p.m.. The plan is to be done by 9:00 p.m,. The organizers offer three guarantees: 1, You will bring goodies home with you; 2, You will eat amazing food; 3, You will have new places to take your friends the next time someone asks, “Where are going to eat tonight?”

Was surprised by the picture used for this article. If you are indeed going to write about the “the best 23 miles of Mexican food” ..should have used a photo of REAL mexican food. Not store bought taco shells and spanish rice from a box and beans from a can. Any Mexican can tell REAL mexican food from this Taco Bell looking food. Nice touch with the fresh jalapeno and cilantro though.
I agree Michelle. The use of this generic stock photo is just sad, especially when the Weekly owns dozens of photos of real Mexican food from restaurant reviews.
I love that photo. It looks like a plate that the original Pancho’s on Grant Rd used to serve. Nothing wrong with being a little bit “American ized.”
Maybe you left your computer in one of these restaurants!
I don’t know which editor authorized publishing the highly inappropriate and slanderous “corrupt redistricting commission” but it reflects extremely poorly on the entire operation of the Tucson Weekly to include it and link the expression to the Arizona Independent Redistricting Commission.
This piece is NOT an article on redistricting, so the post is bullshit and should be removed immediately.
It’s the Weakly. We expect it.
Has Las Brasas reopened? Please be true or did they relocate? Greatest carne asada here. Also, Leo’s Mexican Restaurant should have been in your list, on Speedway and Rosemont.
Marias is gone! Just drove by there last week. Is the Prince Rd Guadalajara reopened?
I thought I had a good handle on the south side, but lots more to try from just this list! Yum!
Well, they missed the “Little Mexico” restaurant on West Irvington Rd. I believe any Mexican restaurant where “Big Jim Griffith” eats should be on the list (and, yes, I have see “Big Jim” at the Little Mexico restaurant!).
Little Mexico’s food is good, but their service sucks and their servers are rude.
I was just going to pop in and say the same as Michelle. I was excited by the title, but then seeing pre-formed taco shells like you’d get at Taco Bell made the article lose all credibility.
So you’re going “soft” on us?
