Hat tip to Tim Steller for putting Sheriff Paul Babeu’s new fundraising pitch on Facebook (also for Steller’s thorough analysis of Babeu’s tactics in the Star). If there was any question about Babeu’s motives for inflaming his anti-immigrant compatriots to protest the busing of children to an Oracle facility — at this point, we don’t know for sure there was ever a plan to place the children there — this fundraiser should put those questions to rest.

  1. Sounds like a plan to me. Why does the media think that we should have to cater to these criminals – yes, criminals. They have invaded our country. They get all the media/press they need while those of us who do not want them here have to shell out our taxpayer dollars to be heard and then we are called inhumane.

Send them all home or send them to Bill Gates and Warren Buffet and that other yahoo. Better yet, there’s plenty of room at the inn – The White House.

  2. It should be made clear that government is following law that was passed by unanimous Congress and signed by President Bush. These children have to go through process and deported or given asylum. Media needs to be better at educating people as government officials should also be.

  3. Here’s a picture of one of those “criminals” you’re talking about
    http://www.nytimes.com/2014/06/26/us/snake…

That’s Alejandro, age eight- quite the hardened criminal, amirite? See how he is “invading” the country, as he meekly presents his birth certificate to a Border Patrol agent? He sure looks dangerous. He’s fleeing the chaos caused by a coup d’état by the Honduran military and all the human rights abuses from the interim government, as well as the death squads.

These are the children that you call criminals who are invading the U.S. You smear them, dehumanize them, call them disease ridden- anything to rationalize your hatred and xenophobia. Yes Laura, you ARE inhumane and full of irrational fear and hate, too. These children are not invading, they’ve been apprehended and are now being housed in accordance with the law you claim to so cherish while they are given due process before they are processed and then sent home to face more of the insane violence that they fled.

That you don’t even realize that the U.S. is in fact following the law and is in the process of likely deporting Alejandro and his fellow children shows just how misinformed you are as well. That dangerous combination of irrational hatred, xenophobia and ignorance makes you the perfect mark for an unethical con man like Babeau. He milks your anger to further his political career- you’re the perfect rube. Congratulations, this article is about you…

  4. Funny thing, bobo, is that the liberals in Washington D.C. have been trying to get real immigration legislation (not that ‘build-a-giant-wall’ nonsense) passed for a while now. They keep running into a roadblock with a big, red ‘R’ painted on it.

  5. We’ll put mr. Hahn. Ignorance spawns hate and fear. And what is criminal, is the hypocrisy of the “Christ-like” xenophobes of the republicant sect.

  6. The media acts as if this call for funds is somehow nefarious or from a secret cult. The secret cult is the federal government, not a hard-working local sheriff. Taking the “liberal line” and attacking all who disagree with their position on open borders seems to be the tack here. Babeu is a voice of reason, and if you want to blindly support the scary corporate feds, do so. My money is on the first openly gay county sheriff in Arizona. Go, Sheriff Paul!

  7. Sabasbas, I don’t think that people disagree with Mr . Baubeu because of his stance on illegal immigration. Why some individuals are reluctant to believe anything this man say’s is all for good reason’s. He has deliberately deceived the public on various different occasions. In the case of the deputy who by some miracle was able to fight off several members of the drug cartel armed with A-k 47’s, yet not one casing was ever found in the area. Baubeu who is a veteran of war (and knows better) collaborated with the deputy’s fairy tale version. Second, If a man opposes illegal immigration, should he turn the other cheek on particular occasions for his own benefit. I’m sure the sheriff could easily hook up with legal lovers and avoid the humiliation of being referred to as a hypocrite.
