Arizona state Sen. Jorge Luis Garcia, a Democrat who was seeking a seat on the Arizona Corporation Commission, has passed away at age 57.

“The people of Southern Arizona has lost a tremendous advocate and he’ll be sorely missed at the Legislature,” says Rep. Matt Heinz. “He put solving problems ahead of partisanship, always.”

  1. Arizona Senator Garcia served our district well. His future presence on the Arizona Corporation Commission will also be missed. He understood the reality of climate change and the national and state security needs to move Arizona’s economy to renewable energy.

    He will be missed.

  2. george is a wonderful person and will be missed. he never gave up on what he thought was right. He would give you the last dollar in his pocket or the shirt off his back, everyone who knew him couldn’t help but to love him. Mr. Garcia you are now with the angels and you yourself have bloomed into an angel. I just wish I could of found out from the family instead of finding out in a new article, I hope nobody else has to find out someone they love in their family has passed away by reading the news.

  3. He will indeed be missed for his compassion and social service work. He was Senate Minority Leader and had represented the people of LD 27 for a long time. Apparently he had a heart condition, leading to his death at age 57. Farewell Jorge, peace be with you.

  4. I love you uncle Jorge and I will not get into philisophicall conversations with any one on their day off! We will miss you dearly. When I hear George Galloway and his name I will always remember You and his compromising.

  5. First time I met him was in Phoenix and I had lost my companions in a huge crowd. I asked a kind and sober looking stranger if I could stand with him till I recovered my bearings. Jorge stayed with me till I was safely delivered to my friends. We struck a friendship. He later served as co-chair of my campaign. He was always there for me. I will miss you, Jorge.

  6. I once met Jorge Garcia. My first impression of him was that he was a kind man who loved his constituents. He was unusual in Arizona politics, being so gentle and soft spoken. We in his district will miss him. GRHS.

  7. For some precious years I was an architect for the Tohono O’odam. Several summers a project administrator was assigned to my projects. What was this Arizona Senator doing working so hard while State Congress was in recess? He was serving, with wisdom, with inclusion, and always with a quiet smile seeing people in their best light. Jorge I congratulate you for winning the Corporation Commission. They will never know your quiet style. I am sad for our loss yet know I’ll remember your many skillfully demonstrated lessons.
