It sure looks like Arizona is Trump country.

Sen. Ted Cruz certainly has better organization and more endorsements among state lawmakers—but none of that appears to matter in 2016. Trump has very little in the way of traditional campaign infrastructure—although he does have endorsements from Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio and former governor Jan Brewer—and while there’s not a lot of polling data, what little we’ve seen suggests Trump is headed to an easy victory next week.

On the Democratic side, the few polls we’ve seen shows Hillary Clinton is likely to beat Bernie Sanders on Tuesday, although Bernie is hardly giving up the state. He and his wife Jane have been making appearances all week long (including one unfortunate photo op with Jane with Arpaio at the notorious tent city; Bernie denounced Arpaio yesterday, saying he ambushed his wife.)

Bernie’s supporters are vocal and energized. He’s got the endorsement of U.S. Rep. Raul Grijalva, who is one of the few sitting members of Congress, and plenty of enthusiastic supporters who will turn out to today’s rally in Tucson.

But the Clintons have been popular in Arizona; In 1996, Bill was the only Democratic presidential candidate in the last half-century to win the Grand Canyon State and Hillary won Arizona in the ’08 presidential primary. Hillary has surrogates like Gabby Giffords and Mark Kelly, Phoenix Mayor Greg Stanton, Tucson Mayor Jonathan Rothschild and 2014 gubernatorial candidate Fred DuVal, who worked in the Clinton White House.

A new Merrill Poll released yesterday had some interesting general-election match ups: Trump and Hillary are tied among Arizona voters at 38 percent each, while Bernie had a 3-percentage-point lead over Trump at 39 percent vs. 36 percent—which all means that a Trump candidacy could put Arizona in play in the general election.

  1. Of course AZ is Chump country. AZ has proven again and again that we have enough backward redneck teabaggers to support the dumb shit that Chump says. I LMFAO every time he says he’s gonna build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. I don’t even think he believes that crap! Yet people are taking him seriously about that and other stupid things he says. Is he gonna deplete billions of taxpayer’s dollars and his own billions to get that done…and then after that send the bill to Mexico and tell them they gotta pay? Hi-larious! I’m sure the only thing that any self-respecting Mexican would want to do with that bill is to wipe their ass with it. Then when that’s done they can get the ladder or dig the tunnel and get across the border just as easily as they always have.

  3. Saturday morning the group La Punta has blocked the road to the Fountain Hills rally with their vehicles. They have created an unsafe illegal occupation of a public road blocking access for emergency vehicles and have shown that they could care less about the public safety of American citizens.

    Start arresting the criminals. They must be held accountable for their actions.

    Regardless of your political party this is unnacceptable.

    Hey, when it comes down to it, they’re all politicians. They ALL have something to hide, to embellish or to lie about, which paints a sad picture of the whole political process. But like my father told me many moons ago when I was enamored with neither Papa Bush or Michael Dukakis, the trick is to choose the lesser of two evils because sometimes (actually a lot of times as I’ve discovered) you’re not going to care much for either candidate.

    I’m really NOT looking forward to this election year. The one candidate which I feel is the most honest out of all of them, Senator Sanders of course, isn’t looking as if he’s gonna be the nominee. If I’m right, this gives me the choice between a woman who has A LOT of baggage and a politically inexperienced blowhard who says really stupid shit that a certain BACKWARD (yes K.H., I typed BACKWARD, because this group of people definitely aren’t thinking forward) set of people actually believe.

    I’m sorry, but you really have to be thinking backward if you take a guy seriously who says that he’s gonna build the wall AND make Mexico pay for it. This is bullshit on the grandest scale.

    If so, I have a bridge located in Brooklyn that I’m willing to sell you for a price that is a steal! I can tell you’re the type of person that knows a bargain when they see one, so you better act quickly before I sell it to some know-nothing for twice the price. Another reason you need to jump on this deal now is because Ol’ Bernie is working on taking all your hard earned money and giving it to everybody else! Buy the bridge before he gets that opportunity and that way you’ll at least have something to show for your money. Do it now before it’s too late!!

    Note that other Western countries are not living in fear the way we are. They don’t fear inadequate health care, massive student debt, government spying, low wages, etc. Sanders cites Denmark as an example, although there are many other Socialist Democracy countries doing better than the U.S. An international report last week listed Denmark, and other Scandinavian countries, as the happiest countries in the world. All Socialist Democracies. Also healthier than the U.S. And safer! We can’t all immigrate to a happier, healthier, safer, saner country, so let’s stay here and vote for Bernie, support him in his presidency and make America a better place to live with better government. No more same old same old lying Hillary or crazy Trump or Cruz. Vote for America. Vote for Bernie.

  14. Which member of Congress would work with Bernie Sanders? Obviously the Rs won’t, and if a Dem does the party would be done, because they would have been seen as socialists. Something many of them have hidden for years. Let Bernie burn.

    That leaves nobody for anti Hillary voters to vote for. feel the Bern? Bill Clinton couldn’t draw 1500 people here today to hear about his wonderful wife.

    Many people who attended the event were neutral, and just wanted to see what all the hub bub was about.

    Who are these misanthropes who flip off senior citizens and children entering an arena and shout obscenities without rhyme or reason?

    Oh, and a black Trump supporter beat the snot out of a radical protester who was cursing at the entire section of people as he was being escorted out with his KKK hood wearing Bernie supporter girlfriend.

    I still don’t like Jan Brewer or Dimebag Joe, but Trump was a force of nature.

    I saw whites and Hispanics, old and young coming together as Americans, people actually held hands without prompting.

    Oh, and there were no Mexican flags flying inside that venue – unlike the dozens I saw outside the TCC entrance. Just American.

  19. Not at all the same reason. The media ignores Bernie because they already printed the invites to Hillary’s inauguration. They will never support someone that publicly claims to be a socialist when a female liberal is running. Even though Hillary claimed she is a socialist.

    They can give you five different reasons why they hate Trump. My favorite is because they call him a hater. They definitely know hate. So they attempt to suppress the vote before election day with their claims that he called for violence…they had the tapes and chose to lie about them.
