On last night’s edition of AZ Illustrated Politics: Tucson City Councilman Steve Kozachik, Tucson Tea Party founder Trent Humphries and former Tucson City Council aide Miguel Ortega discussed Mayor Jonathan Rothschild’s State of the City speech, a renewed call for annexation, the City Council’s recent push for background checks at gun shows on city property and comprehensive immigration reform.

Tucson Tea Party founder, Trent Humphries, is the reason why the Republican Party will soon be a thing of the past.
Annexation certainly opens concerns about state shared revenue and city sales taxes, in addition the economy of delivery of services must be considered. Come on folks Tucson is a major urban city, 32nd largest in the Nation. Consideration of the costs and ineffective use of first responder, police and fire resources depending on what 100 block your home is located really doesn’t make sound fiscal sense. Mayor Jonathan Rothschild’s leadership is refreshing and hits right at economic growth, employment and moving forward as the Southern Arizona and Southwestern United States hub for further economic development. Pima County officials desperately need to examine existing duplication of public services before they concentrate on the just the aspect of getting additional tax revenues that we send to Phoenix returned for our own disposal and benefit. How many potholes could be fixed if we only had to support one “road” department? How much money could we save if we end all duplication in local governments? Mayor Rothschild is absolutely correct in pushing for annexation, and probably correct in not taking on established duplication of services and tax dollar waste. They represent a strong anti-annexation force.
Here’s an idea: if the Border Patrol needs more money, maybe it could sell some of the hundreds of never-used, late-model vehicles I see getting sun-bleached around here.
IMHO, no Federal agency – in the history of the US – has been more successful in ripping off the Federal budget than the Border Patrol.
