On last Friday’s AZ Illustrated Politics, Tucson City Councilman called for the repeal of SB 1070 because it was creating problems between Tucson police officers and the Latino community. He said that the Tucson City Council may take some steps to create a new policy limiting how long Tucson cops will detain people they suspect are in the country illegally while waiting for the Border Patrol.
Kozachik also talked about the Broadway widening project between downtown and Country Club Road, as well his recent efforts to draw attention to the links between gun violence and domestic violence and the upcoming Loft Film Festival.
On the AZ Illustrated Politics roundtable, Pima County Democratic Party Chairman Don Jorgensen and Tucson Hispanic Chamber of Commerce President Lea Marquez-Peterson discussed the hurdles in the way of comprehensive immigration reform, Attorney General Tom Horne’s political problems and the upcoming Tucson City Council election.

Kos, you can’t override a state law but you already know that. All this is, is grandstanding for votes, but since everyone in the city can vote for your seat I wrote a qualified candidate in for your seat.
Koz, so why didn’t you vote in favor of challenging SB 1070 in court when the Mayor and Council voted to do so.
I love to rob banks. The police are causing tension between themselves and the bank robbing community. I think that we should repeal any laws against robbing banks. Go Sideshow Stevie!
It’s hard to make an argument that he’s grandstanding for votes when he’s running unopposed.
Still, it’s a stupid stance. Instead of picking ideological fights with the State, why don’t you pay attention to running the city Steve? There are weeds growing up through our crumbling streets.
Besides, the only “Latino community” the law is causing tension with are the illegal aliens themselves, plus a few noisy activists who believe the border should be open (at least to a certain ethnic group.)
Steve is the ONLY dedicated, effective public servant I know. He studies the issues, works hard and votes his conscience. He’s a smart guy with a good heart…
I only hope the weight of all the bullsh*t doesn’t burn him out…
And this is why I live near Tucson instead of Phoenix. Though it is not obvious when you read these comments, there are people here, like Kozachik, who actually think issues through instead of relying on party talking points. Good on him…
