Two updates:
• The list of Tucson Area Music Awards (aka TAMMIES) finalists
is here! You can find it on Page 45, and online at TAMMIES.com.
As a result, the final round of TAMMIES voting is either underway,
or close to it, depending on when you read this. So, what do you do
now? It’s easy: Cast your vote for the best musicians Tucson has to
offer at TAMMIES.com. We’ll announce
the winners at the TAMMIES awards ceremony and concert on Thursday,
Sept. 3, at the Rialto Theatre.
Questions? Rules and other important info can be found along with
the list of finalists at TAMMIES.com and on Page 45. If your questions aren’t answered there, e-mail me!
• Whatever you do, do NOT miss next week’s issue, in which
we’ll spotlight the winners, runners-up and other high achievers in our
Fiction 84 contest. I won’t divulge the results until then, but I will
say this: Man, you folks managed to come up with a lot of interesting
crap within your 84-word limit.
And some of you need help. Really.
Overall, the entries were surprisingly good—and with this
contest, I think we have shown, conclusively, that writing contests are
subjective constructs, so much so that picking definitive “winners” is
damn near impossible. Not that this stopped us from picking winners
anyway.
What in the hell am I talking about? Good question. Check in next
week to find out.
This article appears in Jul 23-29, 2009.

Hypothetically speaking, is it too late for some of your “Fiction 84” contest entrants to withdraw?
