Did it surprise anyone that Maricopa Sheriff Joe Arpaio filed a lawsuit against Obama over the president’s November immigration executive action?

I doubt it.

Last month, Obama relieved as many as 5 million undocumented immigrants, who are parents to U.S. citizen or legal resident children and have no criminal record, among other requirements, from deportation and gave them work permits. That’s good for the next three years.

Earlier this month, Arizona joined a muli-state challenge, led by Texas (NO SURPRISE THERE EITHER) to the immigration action. Arpaio’s lawsuit is separate.

He filed it almost immediately after Obama made the announcement Nov. 20, saying the temporary changes to the country’s immigration system were unconstitutional.

Now, the self-proclaimed “toughest sheriff in America” has to convince a federal court judge that the suit should happen, as reported by The Associated Press today.

Arpaio argues the program is just going to trigger more people to come here illegally and “commit crimes.”

Did he not read the qualifications? If the person has a criminal background, he or she is not getting the relief. Also, those applying have had to be in the U.S. for at least five years.

His buttons have been stuck on replay for a while now on the issue. I also feel he’s trying to become relevant again…*sigh*

How much more STATE money are all of these people willing to spend to fight the feds on these moves? Arizona’s already spent $1.5 million in legal fees over the licenses for Dreamers dilemma, according to the Arizona Republic.

The work permits will allow these people do just that – work, which equals paying taxes, which equals revenue for the state. Isn’t the budget facing a $1 billion deficit in the next two years? Letting more people fuel the economy might be a good thing.

An update of where the Arpaio suit will end up is en route…

  1. One of the many problems is that the Federal administration is not enforcing the current laws. Is there any reason to believe that the Federal administration is going to enforce the Presidential memo? Even if the memo is strictly enforced the memo will not stop families from being separated.

Keep in mind that the separation of Mexican families occurred when someone in Mexico chose to separate the family by first entering the USA without permission. If Mexicans want a better Mexico, fight for it. Clean up the government, the cartels and society.

  2. Arpaio is trying to change the subject from his own legal woes! I think he is a day late and dollar short, them huge million dollar lost civil suit judgments tax payers in Maricopa county will be paying for years after Arpaio leaves is never going to be recovered with all the green bologna sandwiches in the world!

  3. Mexicans don’t want to work to make a better Mexico when it is easier to sneek into the USA. Obama is promising free stuff, and more free stuff if they vote for dems.

  4. Pandering to people who aren’t even allowed to be here and aren’t even citizens makes zero sense.

What has our country come to? Enforce our laws and this won’t be an issue.

Why are we obligated to please these ILLEGAL people?

Good grief! Americans like myself are struggling. I’m employed (temp work) but can’t afford health insurance. I don’t drive much either cause I can’t afford gas. My auto insurance, which the government has yet to ruin, is thankfully only $25/month (from Insurance Panda) and my homeowners is only $65/month from Accenture (thank god). Please, Obama! Don’t try to socialize those too! I also cut cable and internet and I haven’t been out to eat or to the movies in god knows how long.

It infuriates me that these people who don’t even belong here are getting more freebies than tax paying, law abiding citizens like myself!

Illegal aliens show up and all of sudden the government bends over backwards for them… while throwing good, law-abiding citizens to the wayside.

  5. We have let the politicians export our jobs and import the criminals. Not all illegals have broken a second law, unless they drove a car, or worked for cash to avoid no SS# or taxes.

Second thought most had to continue breaking laws to stay here once they broke the law, entering the country illegally.

  6. Arpaio’s lawyer in this case is the same nut case who filed to have deportation proceedings started against Obama under the old myth of the 50 year Kenyan conspiracy issue, he has a real nut case for a lawyer, racists do seem to flock together like the old saying of birds of a feather do flock together!

  7. Dear Harlan,
Have you hiked in this desert? Easy to sneak in? Most who come here have already hiked across Mexico, or ridden the Beast for days with little resources. Then if they cross, it’s a 10 day walk to Tucson. One cannot carry enough water or food to the next water or food stop. Traveling at night, which most do is dangerous. There are bandits, women will almost guaranteed be sexually assaulted on both sides of the wall. This time of year, it’s cold, other times of year it’s hot. Over 2500 have died and over 2000 are missing. That’s how easy it is to come here. People from other countries immigrate here, why are we singling out Mexicans, Hondurans, and Guatemalans as the bad guys? Sounds racist to me. These people simply want a better life, just like our own ancestors who came here and gave that gift to everyone writing comments today, unless you are a Native American. Arpiao has cost his constituents a significant amount of money with his law suits, but also because he has been sued and lost. Shouldn’t a law officer’s time be better spent?

  8. It is a simple civil misdemeanor to cross the border without papers. It is not some huge crime like so many try to portray. Stop worrying about some poor hardworking Mexicans “taking” something away from you and try looking UP at the people on Wall Street and hidden behind gated walls in their second or third homes for the people who are really taking things from you.

You are being manipulated into hating poor and powerless people so that you won’t look where the real crime happens.

  9. Ronko,

Law officers job is to enforce the law. Entering America ILLEGALLY is breaking the law. Simple math

  10. The liberal wannabe elitist mentality is to enforce the laws until it comes to them. They are a disgusting culture that has ruined our country. Cockroach dung has a higher rating when it comes to being purposeful.

  11. Ronko is the typical libtard mentality. Obey the laws, unless you believe the way I do. Then the laws don’t apply.
I guess that is what happens when you are constantly hittin’ the bong (or in a lot of the cases, their boyfriends schlong).

  12. Rick and Simple Math,
You’ve never broken a law? Cheated even a wee bit on your taxes, rolled through a stop sign? People who live in glass houses may consider where they throw stones. I was once stranded in Mexico City and a perfect stranger who had much less than I, helped me out. Every been stranded on a dark highway and a samaritan helped you with your car pre cell phone days. My ancestors immigrated without a penny. Pulled themselves up to be good citizens and tax payers. Therefore my soft spot for the underdog. It has nothing to do with hitting a bong, or my boyfriends schlong. For your information, I’m happily married for 40 years to the same woman, and heterosexual. Why must you bring what could be an intelligent conversation to such a base level? I can only deduce that you are not only racist but homophobic also. Get with it, it’s soon to be 2015. Your biases left over from antiquity are obsolete, and and are useless in a progressive society.
I said nothing about the law enforcement doing or not doing their job. Most migrants know the dangers they face. If life was a picnic at home for them, they wouldn’t risk it all. Would you send your daughter out into the desert? Litigation costs tax payers money, that’s all I am saying. Joe Arpiao has lost his fair share of law suits during his tenure as the nation’s toughest sheriff. Case closed.

Thanks to Kall for such a level headed comment.

  13. Yo Ronko, by your own words do you condemn yourself and your ignorance of what the border situation is really like. You try to divert the jist of the convo making yourself just another “Joe Average” accidentally making a mistake when in fact, we are talking about, in the majority of cases, an INTENTIONAL violation of a nation”s laws. Not just one, but as a rulle, several as each of these illegals normally violate several laws when crossing our borders. The illegal crossing is only one of many, as a rule, as they usually have forged papers provided by the cartels that bring them over. Many illegals will mule over drugs in order to pay for their passage. Some times even working for the cartels here in the U.S. in order to pay for their crossing. In the process, they will trespass on private lands where some will resort to theft/burglary of farms, ranches, homes, etc. Do I even need to talk about the more serious crimes like the murder of rancher Ralph Krenz in Az., or the husband and wife that were ski jetting in Tx. on the border, etc. Sometimes they cut down rancher’s fences, destroy their water tanks in effort to get a drink, litter our country sides, start forest fires, intentionally and unintentionally, etc., etc., etc. So Ronko do yourself a favor, and not try to act like some angel of mercy, trying to play to all those who would feel so bad for the plight of the illegal, when in fact, you know nothing of the reality!

  14. I am out in the desert between Nogales and Arivaca once a week at least. I walk the trails, pick up t debris, and have a good sense of what transpires out there. I do it in the chill of the winter, as well as when it’s 105 degrees. I watch the washes fill with water in monsoon. I understand the law, and although I may disagree with it, I understand it and obey it. I haul trash bags of migrant and hunters debris out. There are lots of Bud light large cans of beer out there. Any romance of this situation is quickly dissolved especially on a June or July afternoon. I tend to hike about 3-6 miles a day with water and whatever I can haul out. I don’t agree with our laws, but I do abide by them. I understand the drug situation, and do not take or use drugs. But that situation would not exist if our culture didn’t lust and hunger for these things, not to mention pay good money for them. How ’bout you? Ever smoke a joint? Ever? If the answer is yes, then you are part of the problem. Many mules face gunpoint to carry drugs over. But drugs will find their way over through tunnels, catapult (read the New York Times story about the cartels catapulting bales of weed over the wall). I’m simply saying crossing ain’t easy even if getting over the wall is. EVERYONE wants an easy fix for an extremely complex problem. There is historic, archeological, and anthropological evidence that people have crossed what is now a border for centuries. The wall isn’t working or stopping it. A militarized border patrol with the most advanced technology isn’t stopping it. There are over 40,000 to 60,000 Border Patrol agents, fully armed working a 2000 mile border. The war on drugs would be laughable if it were not so tragic and lethal for so many on all sides of the issue and the border. Drugs are killing our culture, our future. Sadly if one faces this issue truthfully, it’s not just a Mexican problem. You can buy heroin at less expensive costs than a large cappuccino. The toughest sheriff in America isn’t getting it done either. He’s simply a tax burden to his constituents and exploitive of an easy target.
I respect your ability to write an opinion on this topic especially when you avoid personal and erroneous vindictive. I simply must disagree. I am no angel of mercy. I love this land and country. My take on being liberal is literal. Look it up…it means being generous. If I make a mistake, I hope to make a mistake on the side of being generous, but not stupid or ignorant of issues. Maybe I’ll make that mistake someday on I-19 when you or one of your kids has car trouble, and offer you a ride into town. Would that be a mistake?

  15. Rick Jason. the rancher who was killed was ROB Krenz. Your errors go way beyond the correct name of a murdered rancher, though.

Your vitriol and hatred are both symbolic and symptomatic of the divisions in this country that I spoke of previously. Stop looking at “libtards” and Mexicans as the cause of your troubles. The people you are being manipulated into hating are actually at the same playing level as you. It is the people who are teaching you this garbage that are the true danger to all of us. Look behind the Fox news logo to where the both the “information” is coming from and where the $$$ is flowing to.

  16. Why would someone in their 80s want to keep working at such a high profile, stress filled job? This guy thinks he is better, smarter, and more moral than any other citizen of our state: living the “legacy” into the grave is the way of the egomaniac. He should give someone else the opportunity to serve, hopefully without the partisan grandstanding.

  17. What has not been reported in this article about Arpaio’s latest money wasting publicity stunt is that his attorney is none other than Larry Klayman, a DC attorney that has been involved in numerous lawsuits against sitting presidents, including Clinton, Bush and now Obama. Reportedly, the judges that hear his cases apparently patiently listen sometimes with bemused attention and then he loses. He does it for publicity which, of course, puts him in good company with Sheriff Joe.
All this is is nonsense, makes for good press and keeps pundits and reporters employed.

  18. While the basic article deals with Arpaio’s latest legal antic, the comments have segued into the perennial argument about illegal immigrants and what to do or should be done. The fact is that there are “officially” 11 million in the US, approximately 3% of our population. We are simply not going to deport all 11 million. So we have to find a way to assimilate these folks, sorting out the evil-doers from the contributors. This must start with a comprehensive overhaul of our immigration system. That’s our Congress and, other than start fights with the other party and trying to discredit the President, they don’t seem to be able to get anything done. So we, the people, have to continue to put up with the endless debates, many homeless and helpless immigrants, trash in our deserts, cut fences and all the rest of it.
We need to continue to press our Congressional Representatives to put on their big person pants and deal with it.
