Arizona’s lawmakers hold fewer degrees than the average state legislator, according to a new report in The Chronicle of Higher Education.

The report found that about 27 percent of Arizona’s state lawmakers do not hold a bachelor’s degree, compared to 25 percent of state legislators in the nation.

In Arizona, 16 percent of lawmakers reported having completed “no college,” while 11 percent said they had completed “some college.” Seventy percent of our state legislators hold a bachelor’s degree, and about half of those reported education beyond their bachelor’s degree. (The figures are rounded, and therefore don’t add up to 100 percent.)

Within the general population of Arizona, only 25 percent of people have a bachelor’s degree or more.

California had the highest proportion of degree-holding lawmakers, at 90 percent, while New Hampshire had the lowest, at 53.4 percent.

  1. And when did a degree have ANYTHING to do with intelligence ? Pack up your Prius and move your hippie ass to california, where they are sooo “educated”. Educated, over taxed, and over regulated.

  2. Then what are they doing in that position, No wonder Arizona is in the trouble it is. Makes you fill real secure. BS!

  3. @Magnacarta education and I.Q. tests (not common sense or life experience) are how liberals and their rags like this one measure intelligence! While you and I know better. I also wonder if Sheriff Dupnick is going to comment on the VITRIOL in this article against Gabrielle Giffords and other brain injured congress members like the now passed Teddy Kennedy, and the yet to be diagnosed Pelosi! I wonder if they will even have the courage to leave our comments alone.

  4. Education is indeed a measure of intelligence, however it is not the only one. Sadly, magnacarta and smite demonstrates that a lack of education certainly does lead to incorrect grammar and incomplete sentences.
