Tucson’s monthly gay happy hour group G3 Tucson is hosting a fundraiser to combat SB 1062 tonight from 5 to 10 p.m. at The JunXion Bar, 63 East Congress Street. 100% of the bar sales will go to printing and promotional expenses to fight the anti-gay legislation.

Individual liberty, justice and equality for all Arizona citizens is threatened by SB1062 which would allow and protect discriminatory acts by individuals, businesses and non-profit organizations under the guise of “Religious Principles.” It is primarily aimed at LGBTI people but is a threat to all.

  1. SB1062 is nothing more than a despicable attempt by a group of Senate Homophobic/Bigots to legalize their bigotry in the guise of “Religious Freedom”. Not only should SB1062 be vetoed by the Governor, but its’ supporters voted out of the Arizona Senate as being incapable of representing the diversity inherent in their constituency.

  2. Did anyone really read the bill? The wording was all wrong but I think they were trying to set it up that a business owner could not be sued for refusing service. I agree with that but I do not agree on the refusal because of religious beliefs.

  3. Seriously, some of you should at least read the bill before jumping on the bandwagon. It is painfully obvious that that has not occurred. It’s a whole two pages (not including the cover page) and it’s easy to read because it clearly shows the changes to the law that is currently in place. Henry Barajas has a link to the fact sheet. Here are links to the Introduced version: http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/51leg/2r/bill… and here’s a link to the Senate Engrossed version: http://www.azleg.gov/legtext/51leg/2r/bill…. My interpretation is that this bill was motivated in response to the war on Christianity and other faiths and has nothing to do with bigotry against homosexuality. But, since it has become fashionable to mock religion and bash Christians, I suppose that it is unlikely that many here will see that those who don’t share their beliefs but are not “out to get” those who don’t agree with them are losing their rights. So much for “civility”…

  4. Oh puulease, this is just more of the (excuse the metaphor) backdoor bigot agenda which is the result of large scale corruption of republican state legislators selling their sorry assed selves to “the creators of wealth” businareligocruds sponsored and promoted by the Citizens United/Koch brothers whore supreme court justice Scalia. Yep, cause businesses are individuals, the megamoneycreeps can buy republicans to spew vile laws that promote exclusion, hate, greed and pollution while they cower in fear behind their patriotic Cayman Island loot and religious minions. Easier to get a camel to go thru the eye of a needle than a rich man to get into heaven. So, they want hell on earth for the rest of us.
