Recorded Wednesday, Aug. 31 at the Phoenix Convention Center just before the Donald Trump rally. Jan Brewer was appointed Governor of Arizona in 2010 to replace Janet Napolitano. She was elected for a full term later that year after signing SB1070, legislation which made it illegal to be an immigrant. This was a hugely controversial and horrible piece of law, remarkably similar to the proposals made by Donald Trump in his rally later in the evening.

  1. Is this ‘Bryan Sanders’ that ignorant not to know that people who cross our border illegally are not legal immigrants, or is he just a blatant liar? Jan Brewer didn’t sign legislation that made criminal invaders illegal, it’s our constitution and federal laws.

Oh, I get it, that constitution written by old white men is no longer the law of the land.

Make Arizona Mexico Again and Make Tucson the Poorest City in the Country! Viva La Raza!

  2. I am always amazed at how ignorant people are in this day and age. Along time ago, well maybe not that long time ago, there is a thing called humility and respecting our neighbors. In the 1940s, when Jan for was in her 40s, there was a popular song called “Green Eyes”. This song was written to help United States try to be more friendly with Mexicans. And there were other attempts to help neighbors to the south feel more welcome with the Monroe Doctrine. (somewhere Miss Brewer needs to look up what the Monroe doctrine.)

That being said our neighbors to the south are good people, and should be respected, instead of be told that we are going to have taco trucks at every corner in the United States. (as delicious as this sounds)

From a liberal perspective, Edward Abbey had said it the best when he said that for every person who tries to cross our border, we should hand them a rifle and tell him to head back and change the government and make it better. However, we are spending billions of dollars to fix Afghanistan, Iraq, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Syria, and God knows what else when we could help the Mexican government be a better place for all human beings. (instead of killing a bunch of liberal teachers – at a mass grave – so we are told)

The problem is all these US conservatives want to pass the bill down the line and have someone else do the hard work. For instance, tax cuts, they are the devils work to help corporations get ahead, while in the meantime other societal needs are going to be passed off to poor people to pay. (Oops, Did I say something too liberal? Sorry (but not really)). In this case, Mr. Trump wants Mexico it to build the wall. What an asinine idea. or maybe brilliant to Mr. Conservative America.

I want everybody who is older than 65 years old to contemplate this thought. Along time ago, there was a guy who had a convertible automobile, and it started raining. He drove up and pulled into place to put the top up on his car. This place was, or should I say, is very secure. A Butler ran out with a umbrella. Do you know what year it was? I’ll give you a hint it was about 80 years ago.

Do you know the place? It was the United States White House.

Today if I had a convertible I probably would be shot if I try to go to US White House in any type of automobile.

So that being said in 1945, when Jan Brewer was a woman in her 40s, the US Mexican border had what at Nogalas? Drumroll please, nothing!

That’s how secure the border was during World War II, to help against the advance of the Nazis.

The stupid thing about all these conservatives, is they want to turn back the clock. Well if we’re going to turn back the clock, they need to realize that people like Mr. Trump have no place to run the country, pick up a damn history book and see what it was like in the past. Therefore I want to say to Mr. Trump and miss Jan Brewer, stop being so stupid, and realize that Mexico, Haiti, and the United States are independent nations in the New World trying to set up something great and good. We expect democracy and decency to be the ideal. Not a neo-Nazi and halfwit governor of the state of Arizona to make our lives a living hell and lives of others worse.

We need to respect our neighbors. Mexico has the same ideals as the United States. Until we realize that we are dependent of the New World neighbors, we will be crushed by others in the old world.

Basic question: when are we going to help our neighbors, instead of building a stupid wall that does nothing for anyone?

(Signed by a liberal in Tucson, and will probably be shot by some stupid redneck.)

  3. The reason that up until the last 10 years or so this has never really been an issue is simple. Big agri-business needed cheap labor, they encouraged people to come from Mexico and work for an hourly wage that no American would work for. Big business contributed millions to election coffers to keep things open. Migrants came to the US and their children and grandchildren chose lives other than working in the fields for pennies. Due in part to not having the labor to harvest crops, we now import more produce than we harvest in the US with the largest portion of it coming through Nogales. Trump and Brewer, they are part of the problem, not part of the solution.

  4. That photograph of former Governor Jan Brewer would never have been posted had she been a Candidate reelection. She would have had a COMPLETE Hollywood Make-Over to appear 20/30 years younger; exactly what today’s Politicians do when discussing their Political Views: tell the Voters what you think they want to hear, then, once on office, implement your undisguised/made-over Political Agenda.

  5. “legislation which made it illegal to be an immigrant.” — such horsecrap. Why can’t people just tell the truth whatever side you’re on? I remember all the people, the writer surely among them, saying black and brown Americans would be stopped and asked for their papers. Never happened. The only thing that happened is we have had less ILLEGAL immigration.

  6. “The reason that up until the last 10 years or so this has never really been an issue is simple. Big agri-business needed cheap labor” — only 8% of illegal immigrants work in agriculture.

  7. Of course, the reason we have less immigration from Mexico now is because Bush/Cheney tanked the economy, not because of any laws we passed or walls we built. Which, Herr Trump will do again, if given the chance.
