Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller, who made the news last week when she declared her “white pride” on Facebook after would-be Nazis marched in Charlottesville and killed one counter-protester (along with injuring others), decided to skip today’s Board of Supervisors meeting.
Miller dashed off an email at 6:13 a.m. this morning letting county officials know she was unavailable for the meeting.
“I am sending this to notify you that I will be unable to cal (sic) in to today’s board meeting: August 21, 2017,” Miller wrote in her brief message. “Please notify the Chair.”
Miller was expected to get roasted during the Call to the Audience segment of the meeting after her Facebook comments earned widespread condemnation outside of her immediate circle of flying monkeys.
“I’m sick and tired of being hit for being white… It is all about making us feel like we need to apologize,” Miller wrote in response to a post about Charlottesville on political gadfly’s Shaun McClusky’s Facebook page. “I am WHITE—and proud of it! No apologies necessary.”
Where is the pride this morning?
This article appears in Aug 17-23, 2017.

White pride? Sounds more like white flight.
There is nothing wrong with white people adopting a positive view of their collective racial identity and working together to advance their common interests. We are now living in the age of identity politics for everyone.
Ally continues to be the poster child for crappy public service. When is she NOT making an embarrassement of herself and her constituents with her self serving, entitled, privileged hissy fits and lies?
If she’s waiting for the furor to die down, she’ll be waiting for a LONG time.
She didn’t say she was proud to be Irish. She didn’t say she was proud to be Danish, or Swedish, or even German. She said “white.” “White Pride” is solely associated with white supremacy and has nothing to do with pride in heritage. And don’t fire back at me about tribal pride, because it isn’t like slave ships kept family tree charts for posterity.
Ally Miller, you screwed up. If you can’t show up to work, even if it means you have to acknowledge where you went wrong and eat your well deserved helping of crow before getting back down to business, it is time to resign.
“It is all about making us feel like we need to apologize”
We DO need to apologize, for our own transgressions and our own racism and we need to be instrumental in dismantling institutional racism.
Honestly, once this country truly apologizes and makes amends for the racism that has gone down things will change.
But until then Ally, you are perpetuating the problem.
Put your big girl panties on, get some skin and take a look at your own s***.
If you don’t like Ally Miller you can get rid of her thru the election process. It doesn’t do a bit of good just verbally trashing a person who has no empathy for other human beings or even a hint that there is a soul in that callous hollow facade. Miller will probably get re-elected because the voters in Pima county are LAME.
Serena, you are not entitled to define or deconstruct a white person’s identity. You don’t get to tell someone, “you’re not entitled to white identity”, any more than you are entitled to tell a trans woman that she’s not actually a woman, or a light skinned black person that they are not really black.
You talk in coded language. Why don’t you step up to the plate and tell us what exactly are the “common interests” we white people share? You know, because we’re all the same…
Correction on the electoral analysis: REPUBLICAN voters in northwest Tucson–the ones who elected and then re-elected Ally Miller despite her unhinged antics and toxic politics–are LAME.
When will Republicans take responsibility for their party’s predominant role in perpetuating racism, bigotry and discrimination? For 50 years the GOP has been blowing the racist dog whistle. Is it any surprise that a racist scumbag like Tchump now leads them? Not at all–those Nazis in Charlottesville are his base, and he knows it, which is why he plays to them like Nero fiddling for Rome.
Instead, we get apologists like Ally Miller and Nathan K, who never passes up a chance to weigh in on the side of white supremacy.
Tell you what, Nathan–I’m a white man, and here’s one interest of mine that I guarantee you don’t share. I want to destroy white supremacy, as soon as possible and by any means necessary, before it kills tens of millions of people again like it did in the past century.
All good people need to show up to the Board of Supes meeting on Sept. 5 and hold Ms. Miller and her apologists accountable, and keep showing up until she summons the courage (if she has any) to face the music.
Or attend this protest this evening:
What: Tucsonans Against Racism Protest and Rally
Who: All Bodies Rise Yoga is hosting
Where: 130 W Congress St 85701
When: Tuesday August 22 at 5:30 pm 8:00 pm
How: The protest will take place on the public sidewalk in front of the office of Pima County Supervisor Ally Miller, who reacted to the sickening events in Charlottesville by proclaiming “I am WHITE-and proud of it! No apologies necessary.”
A person with any “pride” would show up for work and defend her indefensible position. She should be docked a days pay.
Skinnyman, maybe you could start your quest to destroy “white supremacy” by ending your white colonization and cultural appropriation of the sacred, east Indian religious practice of yoga.
So faux-clever, Nathan, but I don’t do yoga. Never been inside a yoga studio in my life, not that there’s anything wrong with it. And not that it has anything whatsoever to do with cultural appropriation. (WTF??)
In the absence of any logically or morally defensible position, is that the best you can do? Incredibly stoopid broadsides at yoga? Wow.
Maybe you should go post at Breitbart, where the intellectual and moral vacuity is more your speed…
Skinny, oh, come on. Lighten up. I mean, you guys are having a protest sponsored by a yoga studio to protest “racism”? It’s beyond self-parody.

Here’s what happened in VA. People protesting the removal of our Confederate Monuments (American History) got a permit to protest at 10:00. Now, let’s not forget they had to take it to top Va State District Court to get their 1st Amendment right acknowledged and permit from the City & State!
Early yesterday morning Antifa members as well as BLM were being flown and bused in from around the country. (We all know who paid their way there)
At 8:45am Va Governor & Charlottesville Mayor, who didn’t want the Confederate Monument protesters there to begin with, sends police in to cancel a protest that hadn’t even started. They forced the protesters out in the streets to a waiting mob of Antifa-fa and BLM. The police were given orders to stand down and let the protesters be attacked.
This was a set up by the Virginia governor to take away protesters 1st amendment rights.
It doesn’t matter what the protesters had to say. They had a right to say it.
Wossamotta, Marty? Somebody hide your tinfoil hood?
Thanks, Marty, for a fair account of the events of Charlottesville.
Ally Miller is a paranoid, thin-skinned, unhinged woman. She has not once said, “I was wrong and I apologize” during her four and a half years in office. Her supporters are blind to this. They like her because she focuses on taxes and roads and opposes the Board majority and Huckelberry, whom they despise. Not only was her statement stupid, the timing, only hours after the Charlottesville violence, was terrible. Miller made a massive email request last week, seeking every email every county employee sent that mentioned her statement. Great use of taxpayers money. She needed to show up at Monday’s BOS meeting and face the music. She will be reelected unless either party finds someone strong to oppose her. She now does not talk to any news media except a radio show that about 12 retired republicans listen to, hosted by a joke of a host who never asks her a tough question, he only kisses her ass.
I’m white, too, but I’m not “proud” of it, nor am I ashamed of it. Being white isn’t an accomplishment. It isn’t something I struggled to become. It’s an accident of birth. It’s time to stop identifying with skin color and identify with who we are as people and as neighbors and community members and what we do to make the world a better place.
