Americans for Legal Immigration PAC, an organization that advocates for immigration enforcement and border security, released a statement on April 3 in response to the Associated Press’ recent decision to no longer use the term ‘illegal immigrant’ in its stylebook:
ALIPAC is changing its “style” preference in all future articles and press releases today in response to the totalitarian steps by the Associated Press to make “illegal immigrants” disappear with the stroke of a pen just days before legislation attempting to do the same is expected to be filed in Washington, DC, by the “Gang of 8.”
ALIPAC will now use the more accurate term “illegal invaders” or simply “illegals” to describe the class of criminals represented by the more than 12 million people on American soil who have chosen to violate America’s immigration laws and borders.
“This Big Brother move by AP is political correctness on steroids,” said William Gheen, President of ALIPAC. “What class of criminals will the Associated Press and Congress make disappear next with the stroke of a pen? Perhaps they will make all of the rapists, shop lifters, drug dealers, tax cheats, prostitutes and pimps disappear too?”
The AP’s decision will likely have more of an impact in future articles than ALIPAC’s decision. But at least supporters of ALIPAC can be satisfied knowing someone stood up to AP’s “totalitarian” decision.

What? It’s not in all caps?
apparently I misunderstood the nature of this weekly magazine. i thought it was more of a, well, tucson weekly magazine concerning events and issues around the city. but it also has a lot of poorly written conservative-leaning political and social articles. if i want to read opinionated political articles, i’ll at least go find some that are well-written. lost a reader.
Eric: Yeah, you’ve got us pegged. We’re a conservative-leaning political mag. Sigh.
I think it is the height of hypocrisy that citizens of a country that invades other nations with lethal force whenever it damned well pleases whine about an “invasion” of workers who come to better their lives and do dirty, back-breaking and dangerous work that our own citizens, by-and-large, refuse to do. It’s the ugly American syndrome at its worst.
Eric, sorry that this blog post that remarked upon a rather silly action being taken by a political action committee broke your perception of Tucson Weekly — though it sounds more like you’re a bit disappointed that not everything we write shares your point of view.
Either way, here’s to hoping you consider giving things another shot.
elbeso – I’m no fan of some recent U.S. military actions. That said, going to war and immigration policy are two different things. Talking about them in the same sentence is illogical.
To your better life reference, unfortunately, not all people who come to the country illegally are simply looking for that. There are people from criminal, murderous gangs who traffic in both drugs and human beings. Supporting illegal immigration supports criminal activity far beyond the obvious breaking of U.S. immigration laws.
The “jobs Americans won’t do” line is a myth. Americans will do the jobs at a fair wage. Importing vast numbers of workers undercuts wages. It’s simple supply and demand.
I like it….Illegal Invaders!
And from now on I will refer to ALIPAC as the Americans for White Immigration PAC.
