We noted yesterday that the House Majority PAC was spending money in Congressional District 2 to help Congressman Ron Barber ward off a challenge from Republican Martha McSally.

The big question in recent weeks had been whether polling showed a race that was close enough that Republican committees would start spending money in support of McSally.

That question has been answered. National Republican Congressional Committee spokesman Daniel Scarpinato confirms that the NRCC has reserved $255,000 in air time to boost McSally’s Southern Arizona campaign. The TV campaign begins Friday, Oct. 5 and is scheduled to continue through Oct. 18.

In other news: The NRCC is also boosting spending in Congressional District 1 in support of Republican Jonathan Paton, who is facing Democrat Ann Kirkpatrick in the sprawling Congressional District 1. The NRCC’s initial $900K buy is coming to close, so the committee is adding another $435,000 to the effort.

  1. Dear Martha,

You sure do have gumption I will give you that. But that is all I will give you. Came out of nowhere knowng nothing about the issues, knowing nothing about those of us you want to represent. I’ve seen little to no outreach to get to know us either just commercials and sound bites. What honestly makes you think you are worthy of representing us, representing me. Maybe its not gumption after all, but arrogance. I don’t know how anyone feels you are qualified to go to washington. You would have been better fit to go to the state legislature first to gain a little experience. I am sure you would get on the plane of someone who took their first flying lesson yesterday too, right?

    Sincerely,
    Unimpressed and not ‘shackled’

  2. Were I a search consultant for the Republican National Committee, I’d consider Colonel McSally an ideal candidate for a generic Congressional district almost anywhere in the country, provided her political philosophy wasn’t too conservative for the district. A district where she had lived intermittently during her Air Force career would seem nearly perfect. But the district served by Stewart and Mo Udall, Jim McNulty and Jim Kolbe, Gabby Giffords and now Ron Barber, is not a generic district in search of a generic candidate. All its members have had roots here, in Congressman Barber’s case since high school.
i’m not a search consultant for the RNC; I’m a 17 year Tanque Verde Valley resident and a Democratic volunteer in every campaign in CD8 and now CD2 since Gabby first ran in 2006. I walk and I talk and I listen, and everywhere I’ve gone since February I’ve encountered people who know, like and admire Ron. I’m convinced that Ron Barber is the representative tailor-made for the district. The home he’s lived in for decades is in the district; his 45 year employment career is in the district. He served the district as Gabby’s District Director, responsible for the exemplary constituent services which have been a tradition in the district. His politics are moderate, centrist, even bipartisan.

  3. This is a woman who will take all entirements away from Seniors. She is more a far right conservative. I hope the voters understand what her agenda is. It is not good for the people. Sally is fixed financially for life, so she has no worries, nor is she concerned about the people of Tucson and ARizona. Vote for Ron Barber if you want true representation.
