You’ll need to go to Ron Barber’s campaign website to sign up for a volunteer shift to get in, but if you’re willing to help out the Tucson Weekly’s endorsed candidate in the CD 8 special election, you can see an excellent show at the Rialto tomorrow night, featuring Sergio Mendoza y la Orkestra, some of the Calexico guys, Salvador Duran and more. Plus, as we mentioned previously, Gabrielle Giffords is scheduled to appear. If you can’t make it, we’ll have photos from the show on The Range afterward.

The editor of the Tucson Weekly. I have no idea how I got here.

  1. Maddening: I cannot get any times for this event on the Rialto website, on Barber campaign website and Facebook page, on Tucson Weekly. What the hell? Frustrating as shit. Oh, now, I finally can perceive when I scrutinize the poster: It’s from 5-8 pm. Weird time. Hardly noted anywhere.

  2. I have all the empathy in the world for Gabbie, but I feel this article is way too biased for this election. Why are you making such a big thing out of this Concert for Ron Barber? Where is equal time and news given to his opposition, i.e., Jesse Kelly? Very unfair of Tucson Weekly. Not fair and balanced news at all. Bad as KGUN9!

  3. @Diogenese: We make no pretense of being unbiased in this matter. Jesse Kelly is a terrible candidate, bad for Southern Arizona. Ron Barber would be a far better representative. I hope that’s clear.

  4. Ron Barber is a sheep and is only running because he was put up by the democratic party for name recognition. He will do nothing to improve CD8 and is a terrible candidate.

  5. @Diogonese, where have you been? The Weekly endorses candidates. Ron Barber is their pick, so why would they waste time on a candidate they don’t want to win? http://www.tucsonweekly.com/tucson/the-tuc…

I’m grateful the Weekly has an opinion regarding things that matter. Most other news sources pretend to be “balanced” but are far from it. It’s good to know where the Weekly’s editorial staff stands on the issues.

  6. By now st you should already know that ANYTHING endorsed by the (D) is not free. As for unbiased support…some would call that pimping.

  7. AZLSR, no, that’s not pimping (heretofore referred to as “pimpin'”).

First, pimps take money from those they are pimpin’ and turn it around to give themselves a bigger presence (see Kelly’s symbiotic relationship with the Tea Party, for instance). But if you were to mosey down to Weekly HQ, you wouldn’t see Dan Gibson with a cane, Jim Nintzel with a feathered hat, or Jimmy Boegle in a plush, neon green suit, courtesy of Big Daddy Ron’s money.

Besides, it’s pretty damn easy to support Barber over Kelly: Kelly has less substance than a Wacky Waving Inflatable Arm Flailing Tube Man. And if the Weekly were pimpin’ Barber, it’d probably be more obvious that they were trying — after all, pimpin’ ain’t easy.
