Congrats to all the winners. 5X congrats for LeeAnne Savage!
Lee Ann Savage …how many times. ?
Are you kidding me ? Somebody stuffed the ballot box.
Have you actually heard her ?
Good grief.
Way to go, LeeAnne and group! You guys had MY vote as well! Its great to see C&W have a “voice” and such an impact once again in Tucson! There are way too many rock bands in this town! You guys are great! Let’s bring C&W back to Arizona as its always been!
– Colt
Timmothy: I can tell you that the ballots were legit, as we checked IP addresses and everything. She won fair and square. Even if you disagree with the results, it’s awful that you feel the need to tear someone down unfairly. If you don’t like the results, encourage people to vote for the bands you think are worthy next year.
Gee Mr Boegle I’m so sorry if you thought I was “tearing someone down”. I’m just incredulous that she could win in so many categories. That has not happened in all the years that the TAMMIES has been in existence. Something, I think, is rotten in Denmark.
There are a number of bands that I think are worthy, unfortunately, many of them don’t have even a prayer of appearing on your ballot because they are not part of the downtown “elite” bands. (The Zsa Zsa’s ! Are you kidding ?) You know them, they are the ones the Weekly staff loves. The bands that play about 4 times a year in front of their friends and maybe about 50 people. Ya know, not actual working bands but bands who are gonna be huge someday. They may even get so big they’ll play the Hotel Congress !
Get out there Jimmy and see some real working bands sometime. You just have to get beyond downtown.
Congratulations to all winners and nominees. Shout out to Brian Lopez, my nephew, Male Vocalist. Specilal kudos to LeeAnne Savage! She deserves all her accolades! She has made the beat of Tucson hers for years. Over the years watching her on stage (she is EASY to look at), in front of a crazy enthusiast Saturday night crowd or a lazy, lay-back Thursday audience, she is always giving it her all. Congratulations to a true Tucson legend.
You’re ignorant, Timmothy. Pure and simple. The readers decide half of the finalists in round 1, and who wins in round 2. Enjoy your sour grapes, bro.
Timmothy, you may have missed this post (http://www.tucsonweekly.com/TheRange/archi…) from back in April, where we asked our readers (in other words, good people like you,) to nominate musicians for the TAMMIES.
If you want these bands to get more coverage and, eventually, local awards, promote them. Not just to us, but to Tucson, because Tucson is responsible for putting these artists where they are — we just hand out the awards.
Timmothy, have you seen 80s & Gentlemen, who won Best Cover Band? They play TWICE a week EVERY week, to busy houses (and sometimes—rarely—just to the staff). They are as professionally minded, and musically proficient as they come. Sure, they play covers, but they don’t fit your “elite” label, playing rarely and only to rarefied attendance.
I’m not going to comment on LeeAnne’s talent or ability, because I’m in her band and I have a strong opinion that will not benefit this discussion (heck, it’s not germane anyway), but I can tell you that every vote that came in on behalf of LeeAnne was legitimately and enthusiastically sought and cast. As Mr. Boegle pointed out, those votes have to be courted. If you aren’t willing to do the legwork on behalf of the bands you care for and think are better, then as the old adage goes: “if you don’t vote, don’t bitch.”
Timmothy, 2013 could be your band’s year. Don’t waste time posting screed here. Go lay some groundwork to elevate your favorite musicians’ profiles and get them on the ballot. It may be just the ticket to get them noticed.
Timmothy, its difficult to believe the “ballots were stuffed” as you say, but I can understand your feelings. I’ve definitely heard it said that it seems that the (C)ritics are nothing more than a (C)lique – a group-hug of people who continually get together and only vote in their own particular likes to the exclusion of all others outside of what ever their accepted circle raves about.
I personally can’t be sure, but there are those who seem to be in the know about this possibility. If true, this could turn into a major scandal and blow up the entire Tucson Weekly Tammies thingy in their faces. Obviously, if the same groups keep getting (C)ritiqued every year, that will be the proof. However, I notice that LeeAnne Savage won because she received a large popularity vote, not the (C)ritics vote! Good luck to your groups, Timmothy. – Colt
The big question is….
WHO CARES.
Small polluted pond…
choked with indie-alt country and self conscious art rock nonsense.
Congratulations to all the runners up, and a special shout out to Silver Thread Trio. Great musicians!
