David Rodgers, 40, is the co-founder of Southwest Terror Fest and a member of local metal group Godhunter. The Terror Fest has been hosted at The Rock for the last two Octobers, but this year’s eclecticly loud music festival will relocate to the Rialto Theatre and District Tavern. Godhunter released their latest album City of Dust in February and will be playing a free show with Amigo the Devil, Noculara and Chamber at 9 p.m. Saturday, April 12 at the District Tavern, 260 E. Congress St.
What was the first concert you attended?
The first concert I ever paid my own money to go see was Metallica (Master of Puppets era) opening up for Ozzy at the Philadelphia Spectrum on April 20, 1986.
What are you listening to these days?
Baroness, Beastie Boys, ASG, Chelsea Wolfe, Roky Erickson, The Lion’s Daughter & Indian Blanket.
What was the first album you owned?
It was probably either My War by Black Flag or Metallica’s Ride the Lightning. I can’t remember which one I bought first, but both had an equal and lasting effect on my life.
What artist, genre or musical trend does everyone seem to love, but you just don’t get?
I’m not really into radio metal. When someone comes up to me and tells me that Slipknot is the heaviest thing they’ve ever heard, I just have to laugh because I don’t get it at all. Bruce Springsteen’s Nebraska is heavier than everything that shit ass band has ever written.
What musical act, current or defunct, would you most like to see perform live?
Townes Van Zandt. It is one of my great regrets that I never got the chance to see him perform live. No disrespect to Bob Dylan, but I think TVZ is the greatest American songwriter that ever lived.
What is your favorite guilty pleasure?
That Lorde album is beyond incredible. I don’t care if it’s “pop”. She’s got something special going on.
What song would you like to have played at your funeral?
I would just have them play the Sorrow and Extinction by Pallbearer. It’s the saddest album I’ve ever heard in my entire life.
What artist changed your life and how?
Tony Iommi made me want to play guitar. Everything else has been downhill from there.
Figurative gun to your head, what is your favorite album of all time?
Radiohead’s OK Computer.

Dear Timmothy…if you’re offended by David flipping the bird then you must not be old enough to drive or competent enough to obtain a valid driver’s license in the state of Arizona. I see the bird fly high every day. Before you criticize David or his band and try to measure their success in any sort of arrogant fashion do us all a favor and start off with your accomplishments with associated prove to back you statements. I’d be willing to bet you have never been in a band or if you were you guys did not do a damn thing outside of a members house let alone write more then one album and actually have them pressed and released on multiple formats. So next time you have the motivation to type run on sentences why don’t you use all of your mental capacity to redirect that motivation into standing up and attending a show to see if they actually play for “25 people maybe twice a year” then you have merit to make such claims.

Foster……first off, before you criticize somebody’s grammar , I suggest you proof read
your own screed.
As to my musical accomplishments, I can assure you that as a performer and a recording engineer in LA, I have played well outside somebody’s house and for many years.
Bands like Godhunter here in Tucson are usually a joke. I’ve heard these guys and they fit the definition. Another go nowhere Tucson band who is lucky to even find a place to play.
As to flipping people off, it’s a tired cliche done by those with zero imagination and a low iq.
