Fruit bats are coming to town.
Not the flying variety but Eric D. Johnson, otherwise known as Fruit Bats, will debut his brand-new album on Merge Records, “The Landfill,” at 7:30 p.m. Friday, June 12, at La Rosa Arts Center, 800 N. Country Club Road. Also performing will be Matthew Logan Vasquez. Tickets begin at $45.19.
His sound is indie/rock with a good deal of soul searching thrown in with the lyrics. The music he creates reflects “deeply personal writing with lyrics that wrestle with regret, longing, and hope,” his press agent said.
Over the course of Fruit Bats’ 25-year career, Johnson has released more than 11 albums and received a 2021 Grammy nomination in the categories of best folk album and best Americana album. He also won a Libera Award for best Americana album.
